\"U.S.Joseph J. DeMaio, on October 17, 2014, of Runnemede. Age 93.

Devoted Husband of 59 years to the late Nellie (nee Gizauskas.) Loving father of Marc and wife Elizabeth, Janice DeMaio Gilbert and husband the late Gregory, and Patricia Thomson and husband Ron. 

Beloved grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 4. Dear brother of Andrew DeMaio, the late Amiel, Maryann DeMaio, and Terry Vacarro. 

Mr. DeMaio spent 4 years in the Army, during WWII, stationed in England. He was employed by GMAC as a senior adjuster until 1985. 

Joe loved tennis, fishing, the casinos, traveling with his wife Nellie, and \”The Gang.\” Joe also volunteered his time to the Thursday crew at Boy Scout’s Camp Roosevelt. 

There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 5 to 7pm, at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. 126 S. Black Horse Pike Runnemede, NJ 08078. Funeral service will be at 7pm at the funeral home. Interment private at the request of the family. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Garden State Council, 693 Rancocas-Mt. Holly Rd. Westampton, NJ 08060. Family and friends may share memories at www.GardnerFuneralHome.com.

FBI Agent Exposes Civil Rights Crimes in Alabama Prison

There was never any dispute that Rocrast Mack, a 24-year-old serving time on drug charges in a state prison in Alabama, died at the hands of corrections officers in 2010. What wasn’t immediately clear was how and why the inmate sustained a lethal beating.

What was known was this: On August 4, 2010, a female corrections officer confronted Mack in his bunk, accused him of inappropriate behavior, and struck him. Mack retaliated, the officer radioed for help, more officers arrived, and Mack was beaten in three separate prison locations over a 40-minute period. He died the next day from his injuries. Guards claimed Mack was fighting them throughout the ordeal and sustained his fatal injuries in a fall.

SUPERSTORM SANDY BLUE ACRES ACQUISITION MEETING IN POMPTON LAKES

10th NEW JERSEY TOWN TO PARTICIPATE IN BUYOUT PROGRAM

TRENTON -The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will hold a kickoff meeting on Thursday, October 23 for 19 homeowners in Pompton Lakes who have been approved for the state\’s Blue Acres acquisition program, Commissioner Bob Martin announced today.

The informational meeting, open only to invited homeowners, will provide details about the buyout program and will match homeowners with case managers who will work with them throughout the process.
