Loving grandpop of John Crowther (Leana), Hugh Crowther (Tara), Georgeine Crowther, Charlene Thomas (Jeffrey), James Bride, and the late Joseph Giambrone II; great grandfather of 7, and great great grandfather of two. Preceded in death by 2 brothers. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

When Barry was just ten, he began training his first German Shepherd. \”I wanted him to be just like Rin Tin Tin,\” he said. The basic course for police dogs and their handlers is sixteen weeks. Training the dogs to find dead bodies, narcotics, and other search and rescue tasks takes another twelve weeks – that’s a total of twenty-eight weeks, almost a half year. Barry supervised all the dogs who responded to the attacks in NYC on 9/11.

Barry’s long hours at Ground Zero over the span of many months is the reason, his doctors say, he got cancer. After a superhuman struggle against the disease, Barry finally succumbed to his illness on June 26, 2011.

Newswise — BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 17, 2015 – Wild songbirds that prefer to eat at bird feeders have an increased risk of acquiring a common eye disease. In turn, these birds also spread the disease more quickly to their flock mates, according to an international research team led by Virginia Tech scientists.

The researchers found that this feeding preference, rather than its social position in the flock, as previously thought, was more likely to result in a bird contracting the eye disease. The results of the study, funded by the National Science Foundation, were published Wednesday in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

SCRANTON—The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that late yesterday a federal grand jury in Scranton indicted five federal inmates at the United States Penitentiary Canaan (\”USP Canaan\”), in Waymart, Pennsylvania, in separate cases involving alleged assaults with a dangerous weapon.

One of the incidents involves an assault by an inmate on correction officers.

According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, the following inmates were charged in the following cases:
