Maryland Man Convicted of $18.7 Million Medicare Fraud

A federal jury in the District of Maryland convicted a laboratory owner yesterday for taking advantage of nursing homes that needed COVID-19 tests during the pandemic and fraudulently billing Medicare more than $18 million for other expensive respiratory tests that nursing home residents did not need, physicians did not order, and, in many cases, were never performed.

“Mr. Britton-Harr’s decision to exploit elderly nursing‑home residents and inexperienced interns for personal gain during a global pandemic is unconscionable. This verdict reinforces our message: there is nowhere to hide for those who commit fraud. We will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the District of Maryland. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office, along with our law-enforcement partners, remains committed to rooting out fraud and holding accountable those who exploit our vulnerable victims and who steal our taxpayer money.”

What Happens If Your Car Accident Claim Goes to Court?

Cleveland, Ohio, is a busy city where daily travel on neighborhood streets, major routes, and crowded intersections can lead to serious collisions with lasting consequences. After a crash, an injured person may expect an insurance claim to cover the financial impact, but negotiation alone can’t resolve every dispute. When questions remain about who caused the collision, the extent of the injuries, or the amount of compensation owed, the claim can move into the civil court system. This shift can feel unfamiliar because litigation involves formal procedures, legal deadlines, testimony, and close review of both sides’ evidence.

Understanding the process before a case advances can help an injured person prepare for the demands of pursuing compensation in court. A car accident lawyer in Cleveland can explain legal options, assess disputed issues, and help prepare the case for each stage. With proper preparation, a claimant can approach court proceedings with a clearer understanding of what to expect during litigation.
