York, PA… Junior Greg Osgoodby (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) won the 174-pound weight class as The College of New Jersey wrestling team competed at the annual Spartan Invitational hosted by York (PA) College on Saturday.
Osgoodby won all four of his matches in convincing fashion, including a 12-2 victory over sixth-ranked Brandon MacWhinnie from Stevens Institute of Technology in the finals. The Lion opened the tournament with a pin and then a technical fall victory before scoring a major decision in the semis. The four wins on the day put Osgoodby at 13-3 on the season.
Junior Al Wonesh (Columbus, NJ/North Burlington) also advanced to the finals at 165 pounds, but dropped the title bout 6-2 to Randy Moore from Gloucester County College. Wonesh finished the tournament with a record of 3-1.
TCNJ had a strong performance in the upper weight classes as junior Shawn Vanwingerden (Wantage, NJ/High Point) was third at 197 and senior Steve Carbone (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished in that same spot at heavyweight.
Sophomore Joe Bozzomo (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) was third at 184 pounds as the Lions had wrestlers place in the top four in each of the final five weight class.
The success didn’t stop there as returning All-American Tyler Branham (Newton, NJ/Kittantinny) was fourth at 149 pounds and freshman Dan Hughes (Delran, NJ/Delran) was fourth at 125.
Next up for the eighth-ranked Lions will be a dual meet on Tuesday, December 4 at Stevens Institute of Technology.
