THE HORRIBLE ATTACK ON THE FORT NASSAU PLAYGROUND………\”Who broke the castle, Mimi?\”

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:

This question was asked by my granddaughter, who refers to the \”fort\” (Fort Nassau Playground) as the princess’ castle. How do I answer this wide-eyed toddler? What do I tell her? The naughty kids broke it!

How long will it take for the youth of our city to completely destroy Gloucester City’s playground named Ft. Nassau?

On a recent visit, my granddaughter told me the \”bridge\” was broken. To my astonishment, one of the boards was completely broken off which left a gaping hole.

Lady Roadrunners Steal the Show

On a day when all the Roadrunner winter sports teams were in action it was the women\’s basketball team that stole the show by breaking the school record for points scored in a game. The 103 point effort marked the first time that the women\’s program has broken the 100 point barrier. The team scored 49 first half points and then rolled to victory in the second half by scoring a remarkable 54.

A LETTER TO SANTA CLAUS DURING WORLD WAR II

\”Dear Santa Claus\”… the letter read.

Excuse ‘is ritin please… and please ecuse the spellin’ too, It ain’t no good, bet gees… tomorrow’s Christmas Day, ya know.

I darn near did forgit. Like all other little boys and girls, I gotta get what I want writ.

I wasn’t the best kid of all, but, I’m sure I wasn’t the worst… dint do nothing’ too bad, exceptin’ threw stones… fighting,’ and sometime I cursed.

But, almost since a week ago, I did what I should do… I knowed that you’d be coming and dint want to be on the outs wit’ you.

I guess your extra busy this year with all the places you have to go… and wit’ this war that my dad’s fightin’ I’ll bet your stocks is low… so, you can forget me… Santa… if any presents for me you had… cause I just want one favor Santa, please tell God to take car of my dad…

‘cause when this fightins over… and war we will have won… my dad will come home to his sweetheart, my mom and to me, his son… then he can trim our Christmas tree with shiny balls and lights and him and mom can sit and wait like they did on other Christmas nights.

On December 15, 2008. Age 80. (nee Powell). Of Brooklawn. Formerly of Gloucester Heights.

Loving wife of 60 years to the late Walter C. Garson, Sr. Beloved mother of Gail T. (John) Garson, Lawrence J. (Judith) Garson, Steven J. (Cheryl) Garson and Walter L. (Lynn) Garson. Loving grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 10. Also survived by her loving nephew Walter Donachie.

Dolores was born in Philadelphia, PA and worked as a housekeeper for the Holiday Inn in Moorestown, NJ. Resided in Gloucester Heights before moving to Brooklawn.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her viewing on Saturday morning from 9 am to 11 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Words of Remembrance 11 am in the funeral home. Interment New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. There will be no evening viewing.
