Edgar Tavener Jr., age 90 of Gloucester City, WWII Army Veteran

\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef0115724332f3970b-120wi\" Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5 for Edgar Tavener Jr., age 90 of Gloucester City who died Wednesday, Dec. 30th, 2009.

Mr.Tavener was born in Gloucester City, and had been a resident of Gloucester City all his life. He served in the Army during WWII and was a mailman at Rowan University formerly Glassboro State College. Edgar was a member of American Legion Post 72 and Townsend C. Young VFW Post # 3620 in Gloucester City, NJ.

Husband of Mildred (nee Kienzle), he is survived by his son, Kent Tavener (Kathy) of Gibbstown, daughters, Judy DiGiacomo (Vince) of FL, Jane Hertlein (Walt) of Gloucester City, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons Edgar Tavener III, Gary Sims and brother Arthur Tavener.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family 9:30 to 11 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 47 Main St., Mantua, NJ where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions in Edgar\’s memory may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 601 Highland Ave., Gloucester City NJ 08030.
