The City of Gloucester has determined that Water and Sewer Rates must be increased for
supplying portable water, as well as maintaining the conveyance of its wastewater. Based on data supplied by our utility department and the accounting firm of Bowman and Associates, water cost increases for the average consumer will be $7.00 per quarter. This amount means a customer usually paying $45.00 per quarter for 10,000 gallon shall now pay $52.00.
In the case of wastewater, the average consumer will see a quarterly increase of $8.00 per quarter. This amount means a customer paying $49.00 per quarter for wastewater disposal shall now pay $57.00.
Along with these utility payments increases the city must pass on a cost to its consumers for the operation and maintenance of our storm water system and combined sewer overflow systems.
These two new charges are a result of Federal and State mandated proper treatment and disposal. The additional cost shall be added to your quarterly sewer bill at a rate of $12.00 quarterly. Along with these fees an average bill will be $69.00 a quarter.
The city has constantly maintained and improved its infastructure without any increase in water and wastewater fees since 2008.
