NEW YORK – A Coast Guard boat crew rescued the captain of a recreational boat after his vessel caught fire near Jones Inlet, N.Y., Friday, June 15, 2012.
Coast Guard Station Jones Beach received the distress call at 5:40 p.m., from the captain of a 46-foot fishing boat reporting that his boat was on fire and there were six people aboard.
A rescue boat crew from the station was immediately dispatched and the crew assisted local fire and rescue agencies with rescuing personnel from the vessel.
\”We transferred the captain of the vessel to our boat,\” said Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Sebastio, the Officer of the Day at the Coast Guard station. \”The other passengers were transferred to the Hempstead Bay Constables\’ rescue boat.\”
