BROOKLAWN NJ–(March 15, 2015)At approximately 5:12 PM, Brooklawn Police Officers were dispatched to the Metro Diner for a report of an unconscious female. The first arriving officer quickly determined that the female was unresponsive and was unable to detect a pulse. The officer radioed for additional support, an expedited response from Emergency Medical Services, and initiated cardio pulmonary resuscitation(CPR) efforts.
Brooklawn Police Officers were quickly assisted by officers from the Mount Ephraim Police Department after hearing the call for help. Shortly after CPR was initiated an automated external defibrillator was utilized, at which time a shock was given. CPR was continued until the arrival of Brooklawn Emergency Medical Services and Virtua Paramedics where the patient was turned over to their care with a strong pulse.
The patient was later transported to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for further medical treatment.
The quick response by officers and their ability to work together
validated their training and saved the life of female. Furthermore this proved the effectiveness of CPR and early defiberlation. According to the American Heart Association effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
