DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police encourages safe boating practices
Recent statistics from the U.S. Coast Guard show the top five primary contributing factors for boating accidents are operator inattention, improper lookout, operator inexperience, excessive speed and alcohol use. With these factors in mind, Cpl. John McDerby, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police boating safety coordinator, offered some tips to keep in mind for safe boating:

Customs/Border Protection Officers Seize $429K in Methamphetamine and Cocaine

BROWNSVILLE, Texas— Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted two loads of alleged narcotics, with a combined value of $429,000, hidden within a 1999 Dodge truck and a 2015 Toyota Rav4.
\”Our frontline officers’ outstanding attention to detail and great teamwork delivered a winning combination that resulted in the excellent interception of two hard narcotics loads just days apart,\” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. \”I congratulate our CBP officers for these seizures and arrests.\”

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ (CNBNEWSNET)–Former Gloucester City Police Chief William Crothers and Deputy Police Chief Michael Kaye walked out of the Police Department with a \”suitcase\” of money according to a settlement agreement that recently came into my possession. Crothers, with 28 years of service and Kaye with 27 years retired on August 31. The \”suitcase of money\”, $100,000 for each, came about as a result of a lawsuit being settled.
When Mayor Bill James was asked about the settlement he said there was a lot of turmoil in the department and it had to be done. \”During my many years in the department I never saw anything like what has been going on these past three years.\” Deputy Chief James retired in 2006.

Mr. Edward \”Ed\” J. Simila, of Brooklawn, Avid Hunter and Fisherman | CNBNewsnet
(CNBNewsnet)–Edward Joseph Simila, of Brooklawn, passed away on June 26, 2015, at the age of 73.
Mr. Simila grew up in Gloucester City, where he attended local schools. He enjoyed playing poker, and shooting darts and playing pool. Ed loved hunting and fishing and belonged to several gun clubs in the Chatsworth/Batso New Jersey area. Besides deer hunting in New Jersey, he also chased the \”Grey Ghost\” in the state of Maine and New York as well as Florida. He belonged to the Gloucester City Breakfast Club.
\”Ed had a great sense of humor,\” said his friend Bill Cleary. \”He was quick with a joke and had a twinkle in his eyes whenever he smiled. He enjoyed hunting, and he especially liked using a muzzleloader. He also loved to fish. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My condolences to his daughter.\”
Loving husband of the late Maryann (nee Tiefenthaler). Cherished father of Teresa Carney (Jeremy).

CNB Crime: Shooting in Wildwood, 2 Arrested

Cape May Court House, New Jersey – County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Chief Robert Regalbuto of the Wildwood Police Department announced the arrest of Wayne Roberts, 21 years old and Alexander Camillo, 20 years old for a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of June 29th in the City of Wildwood.
At approximately 4:00 A.M. on June 29, 2015, Wildwood Patrol Officers responded to the 300 East block of Juniper Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, an 18 year old male, lying on the sidewalk suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was treated by Paramedics and the Wildwood Fire/Rescue Squad and airlifted to the Trauma Unit of the Atlantic City Medical Center.
