Two individuals are in custody after an armed carjacking late Monday night led to a police pursuit and a vehicle collision in Northeast Philadelphia. The incident began on May 11, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., when Philadelphia police officers responded to a report of a carjacking on the 2100 block of Longshore Avenue. Investigators determined that two masked suspects approached a 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old woman, brandishing a handgun and a knife. The offenders threatened the victims with the weapons before seizing their keys and fleeing the scene in the victims’ 2012 Jeep Cherokee.
The stolen vehicle was spotted by patrol officers shortly after the initial report, sparking a brief pursuit. The suspects’ flight ended when they crashed the Jeep into a pickup truck at the intersection of Torresdale and Adams Avenue. Following the collision, both suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot but were quickly apprehended by pursuing officers. A handgun was recovered from the scene.
The suspects have been identified as 18-year-old Richard West and 16-year-old Jayden West, both of the 1000 block of East Tioga Street. Authorities confirmed that the 16-year-old is being charged as an adult. Both males face a litany of charges, including Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Carjacking, and Fleeing Police, along with several related offenses. The investigation remains ongoing and is currently being handled by the Northeast Detective Division.
