An Atco man has been arrested and charged in reference to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Voorhees last weekend, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Voorhees Police Chief April Herrington.
Aaron K. Tart Jr., 24, is charged with 2nd -degree Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death, 3rd -degree Endangering an Injured Victim, and 4th -degree Tampering with Evidence.
On October 24, 2026, at approximately 1:17 a.m., officers from the Voorhees Police Department responded to the area of the 100 block of North Route 73 for a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist. Upon arrival, officers located a bicyclist lying unresponsive in the roadway. The victim – later identified as 71-year-old Maksudur Rahman of Berlin Township – was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers learned that two separate motor vehicles had struck the victim and fled the scene. The first vehicle was later determined to be a gray Ford Fusion bearing a New Jersey registration. The other vehicle is suspected to be a dark-colored midsize SUV, possibly a Honda Pilot.
During the investigation, detectives determined Tart was driving the Ford Fusion when it struck the victim. Detectives also learned that Tart had covered the vehicle after the crash and had the windshield replaced.
Tart was charged on October 29, 2026. He was taken into custody in Deptford on October 30, 2026, by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force –Camden Division. The Ford Fusion was recovered at the arrest location. Tart was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.
Detectives are still asking members of the public to come forward with any information about the dark-colored midsize SUV that struck the victim after the initial collision.
