There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who love dogs and “the others”. They teach us all about love and loyalty, neither are measured by time. Emily J. Taylor was love and loyalty. She was the mother of 5, defined by strength and resilience, who was a bit spunky and certainly fashionable. If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around. Emily, to the world, was just a mother. But to her family, she was our world. The only thing that mattered was time and effort. She worked hard and enjoyed the little things like jewelry, shopping, and stuffed animals.
Emily enjoyed collecting, and on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, we boxed up all of her yesterdays and, after 89 years, neatly tucked them away, just a little farther than the sun. We’ve reached the age where life stops giving things to collect, but takes them away. Don’t fear sadness, however, as it tends to sit right next to love.
Emily was born in Camden and had spent her formative years in the Fairview neighborhood. She was a Collingswood girl, spending her youth there and later a Paulsboro neighbor. She enjoyed the sunset of her years in Jacksonville, FL. Emily worked in banking and had spent her working years as a teller in many of the Commerce Bank area branches. At home, she had the hardest job of them all. She was a mom to 5 children but took a little time off to bet on the ponies and push lady luck at the casinos. She created a North Star of love that we could all look up to.
The life given to us by nature is short, but the memory of a well-spent life is eternal. Mrs. Taylor is the widow of her late husband, Charles T. Taylor. She will forever be remembered and deeply missed by her children, Debbie Spence, Larry Lentz, Darlene Fox, Linda Marandola, and Eddie Lentz. Emily is the proud grandmother of Shawn Fox, Rachel Smith, Carissa Finch, Lindsay Westergard, Madison Jensen, Mark Lentz, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to join us on Friday morning at 11:30 am. We’ll come together to take comfort in each other and bear witness to love’s reunion at the Camden County Veterans Cemetery in Harleigh Cemetery, 1640 Haddon Ave., Camden.
