The Philadelphia Police Department remains deeply grateful for the outpouring of support for Police Officer Shane Seiber, Police Officer Hector Rodriguez III, and their families following the October 10 shooting in West Philadelphia.
At approximately 12:17 a.m., the two 19th District officers responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 100 block of North 52nd Street. Both officers were shot multiple times during a violent attack by a gunman who was later arrested. They were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where medical teams worked tirelessly to save their lives. Officer Seiber fought valiantly but succumbed to his injuries later that morning. Officer Rodriguez remains hospitalized as he continues his recovery.
We are profoundly grateful to the doctors, nurses, surgeons, and entire medical team at Penn Presbyterian for their extraordinary skill, compassion, and tireless efforts on behalf of both officers and their families.
Beyond their service to Philadelphia, both officers are husbands and devoted fathers. Officer Seiber leaves behind his wife and two young children, who now face an unimaginable loss. Officer Rodriguez is a father of five whose family faces the uncertainty and challenges of his recovery. For both families, this tragedy reaches into every part of their lives. Our commitment to them extends far beyond these first difficult days.
The Philadelphia Police Department, the City of Philadelphia, and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 are working together to ensure both families receive the care, resources, and support they need. We will continue to stand beside them, now and always.
Amid the tremendous support we have received, many people have asked how they can contribute directly to the families. In response, the Department is sharing the following GoFundMe fundraisers, both approved by the respective families:

GoFundMe has been working with the Department to help prevent fraudulent fundraisers and protect those seeking to support our officers and their loved ones. Anyone wishing to contribute through GoFundMe is encouraged to use the links above to ensure their donation reaches a family-approved fundraiser.
We thank everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement, and assistance. Your kindness reminds these families that they are not facing this alone.
