Philadelphia Police Investigating Multiple Incidents

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Police Department is providing the following details regarding multiple ongoing investigations into early morning incidents today, as well as an official update regarding a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend.

Fatal Shooting in Kensington

At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 3100 block of G Street. Upon arrival, units discovered an adult male on the highway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed by emergency medical personnel to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.

The scene was secured; however, no weapons have been recovered, and no arrests have been made at this time. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and a motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing with the Homicide Unit.

Hit-and-Run Involving Police Vehicle

In a separate incident in the city’s 18th District, an officer was operating a patrol vehicle near the 4900 block of Spruce Street when the cruiser was struck by a blue Tesla. The driver of the Tesla fled the initial scene and caused a secondary collision at the intersection of 50th and Walnut Streets.

Medic transported an occupant from the second collision to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center; their condition remains unknown. While the 18th District officer involved was not injured, the driver of the Tesla remains at large. 

The investigation remains ongoing with the Crash Investigation Division.

Police Identify Man Killed in Weekend Shooting in Southwest Philadelphia

Authorities have identified a New Jersey man killed during a double shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon on the 5200 block of Chester Avenue at approximately 4:51 p.m. on May 2. Upon arrival, police discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were rushed to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center for emergency treatment. Miguel Quinones-Barreto, 20, of Haddonfield, New Jersey, was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m. The second victim, a 25-year-old man, was treated for a gunshot wound to his right arm and was listed in stable condition.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made. 

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
