Rowan Women’s Lacrosse Moves on to the NCAA Sweet 16

Elaina Corson and Madison Rothwein combined for five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter as #18 Rowan rallied to an exciting 13-11 win over #12 Scranton in the Second Round of the 2026 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Profs now advance to the Third Round next weekend at top-ranked and defending champion Middlebury.

Rothwein netted three straight goals, to tie the game and then give Rowan (15-4) a 12-11 lead. That goal on a free-position shot with 3:50 to play proved to be the gamewinner and Corson added the insurance goal at 1:26, her 79th goal of the season, to secure the victory.

Scranton (16-5) took an 11-8 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but that would be the final goal for the visiting Royals. Corson scored at 10:25 and Rothwein followed with one at 7:15 to pull the Profs within, 11-10. The sophomore who was the NJAC’s Midfielder of the Year tallied the tying goal at 4:52 on a free-position shot before hitting the back of the net a minute later with the winning goal.

Corson, Rowan’s all-time leading scorer, had five goals in the game with Rothwein and Fiona Lockhart scoring three apiece. Yasmin Harris and Alexis Lowry each added a goal as well to send Rowan to the NCAA “Sweet 16” for the second year in a row. Goalie Kylie Durboraw made eight saves on the day, and kept Scranton off the board for the final 11 minutes of the game.

Rowan owned an 8-7 lead in the third quarter, but Scranton finished it out strong with three straight to take a 10-8 lead, and then scored at 11:49 of the fourth quarter.

At the start, Scranton struck first and took at 3-1 lead in the first quarter, with two goals from Jillian Lopez. Lockhart notched Rowan’s lone goal, an unassisted tally at 8:16.

Lowry scored the opening goal of the second quarter and Corson tied it up, 3-3, at 12:30. Lopez added another to push the Royals ahead, buut Lockhart and Corson teamed up on consecutive goals in the final 30 seconds, with Corson adding an assist, to allow Rowan to take a 5-4 lead at halftime.

The teams alternated scoring goals in the third quarter and with Rowan leading, 8-7, on Harris’ goal, Scranton scored three straight, with two from Jessica McCabe to own a 10-8 lead heading into the final quarter.
