I-295 southbound/Al-Jo’s Curve closed and detouredtonight and Wednesday night in Bellmawr

The I-295 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound, also known as Al-Jo’s Curve, is scheduled to be closed and detoured tonight and tomorrow night as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County. In addition, overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound tonight, tomorrow, and Friday nights. The lane and ramp closures, as well as traffic slowdowns, are necessary to install structural steel and construct a retaining wall.

Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24

I-295 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound (Al-Jo’s Curve)

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, June 23 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and again tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 at the same time, the I-295 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound, also known as Al-Jo’s Curve, is scheduled to be closed and detoured. The right lane on I-295 southbound also will be closed just after Exit 28/Route 168, and the right lane on I-76 eastbound is scheduled to be closed after Exit 1B through Exit 1A. All motorists traveling on I-295 southbound will be directed to stay left onto Exit 26. The closures are necessary for retaining wall construction. The following detour will be in place:

I-295 southbound to Route 42 southbound/I-295 southbound Detour:

  • Motorists traveling on I-295 southbound wishing to continue onto Route 42 southbound will be directed to exit left at Exit 26/I-76 westbound
  • Take I-76 westbound to Exit 2/I-676 northbound
  • Take I-676 northbound to Exit 1/Collings Avenue
  • Turn right onto Collings Avenue
  • Turn left onto I-676 southbound, which becomes I-76 eastbound
  • Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1A/I-295 southbound

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, June 23 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and again tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and Friday, June 26 at the same time, the three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.

I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Lane and Ramp Closure

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, June 23 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and again tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and Friday, June 26 at the same time, the left lane on I-295 northbound before Exit 27A and the I-295 northbound Exit 27A ramp to I-76 westbound are scheduled to be closed. At least two lanes will be maintained on I-295 northbound. The following detour will be in place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights:

I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Detour:

  • Motorists traveling on I-295 northbound wishing to take Exit 27A to I-76 westbound will be directed to continue on I-295 northbound
  • Take the left Exit 27B (old Exit 27) ramp to I-76 westbound

I-295 northbound Traffic Slowdowns

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, June 23 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and again tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24 and Friday, June 26 at the same time, traffic slowdowns are scheduled to take place on I-295 northbound between the Creek Road/CR 753 Overpass (mile post 26.3) and the Browning Road/CR 659 Overpass (mile post 26.7). The New Jersey State Police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns.

Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
