THE CITY OF BELFAST IS BURNING (VIDEO)

BELFAST, IRELAND (Cleary’s Notebook News)–The demonstrations against immigrants in Belfast was spurred by a brutal attack Monday on a 40-year-old Belfast man. The suspect is a 30-year-old Sudanese man who had claimed asylum in the United Kingdom. He has been charged with attempted murder, threatening to kill, and carrying a knife. The man entered Northern Ireland after applying for asylum. In 2023, he was granted a five-year visa to remain in the U.K. reported CBSNews.

A video of the attack published on X shows the Sudanese man straddling the victim, holding a large knife. Men from the neighborhood can be seen running to the scene with clubs in their hands and then beating the suspect. That film shared on social media sparked two nights of unrest on the streets of Belfast. Groups of masked rioters have been seen setting fire to homes, a bus and trash cans, and throwing rocks at police and blocking roads.

The family of Stephen Ogilvie, who lost an eye in a knife attack that sparked the protests, condemned the violence.

Tuesday night, 200 extra police officers were on the streets after residents were forced to flee homes that were set on fire. Wednesday night, saw masked youths breaking up parts of pavements and walls of private homes to make bricks to throw at police.

Northern Ireland’s infrastructure minister described the destruction as “racism, intimidation and thuggery”, according to Amelia Neath, a reporter for the Independent.

Tonight, Thursday, some public transport services in Belfast will be suspended for the third evening in a row, causing passengers in Northern Ireland to face travel disruption, wrote Neath.

Throughout today, traffic returned to normal in Belfast. But, last night, the demonstrators forced Antrim Road in Glengormley to be closed after bricks and bottles were thrown at police. In return, the officers responded with water cannons.

THE DONKEY PATH —

DOES ANYONE KNOW? Why has it taken over six months to repave Barnard Avenue in Gloucester City? It can’t be weather related since this winter has been mild. There have been weeks when no construction work was done on the street. According to Barnard

Regarding the Barnard Street repairs, Brian Morrell, the acting City Administrator/Police Chief, promised the residents living on that DONKEY PATH that the work would start at the beginning of January 2022. However, the long-overdue work didn’t begin until September 2023, nine months later. Residents have been putting up with the dirt and dust from the construction crews all this time. On Monday, January 30, another infrastructure crew dug up the street again.

That street, along with others in the Riverview Heights area, has been neglected by the past and present Democratic mayor and council for decades. The incumbents have no competition, so they have no need to live up to their promises. Which explains why the streets in this area and across the City have been patched so many times. Gigantic holes in these streets with water pouring out of them are a common occurrence.

Senate Enviro Cmt. Unanimously Releases Green Acres Bill

Today, the Senate Environment Committee unanimously released S3254 (Mukherji/Greenstein), which prohibits the expenditure of Green Acres funds for the purchase, use, installation, or replacement of artificial turf fields. In recent years, the Green Acres Program has spent millions in public funding on artificial fields, including $10 million in 2023 and another $4 million in 2025. This legislation is essential for protecting our environment and public health, and for ensuring that Green Acres funds are strictly dedicated to conservation and safe recreation.

Rosie Pino Blasts Unacceptable Vote Counting Delays

Four-term local elected official and Republican Nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s 9th District, Rosie Pino, is demanding answers regarding the six-day delay in calling her primary race, and others around the country.

Pino drew a direct line between the local dysfunction in North Jersey and the slow vote counting paralyzing California’s highest-profile elections — specifically the Gubernatorial Primary and the race for Mayor of Los Angeles. Despite NJ-09 being one of the most hyper-competitive congressional seats in the nation, it remains the only race in the entire state of New Jersey left uncalled — even though every county has reported 100% of votes counted.

“Look at the absolute disaster happening in California with the Governor’s race and the chaotic mess with Spencer Pratt in the LA Mayor’s race. Nearly a week later, they are still dragging out the count. Now, we’re seeing the same slow-roll shenanigans right here in New Jersey,” said Rosie Pino. “The polls closed on Tuesday. Why are they still counting ballots nearly a week later? It is completely unacceptable, it invites fraud, and NJ-09 is the only seat left hanging in this state. What are they waiting for?”

Pino declared that fixing America’s broken election administration will be her top priority in Washington.

Resorts Casino Hotel Makes History with Record-Breaking $1.78 Million Jackpot

A record-breaking $1,782,962 jackpot was hit at Resorts Casino Hotel on Monday, June 8, marking the largest brick-and-mortar win in Atlantic City this year and one of the biggest jackpots in Resorts’ 48-year history.

The lucky winners, Sindy and Louis of Long Island, had just checked in and headed to the casino floor before lunch. They were down to their last $10 spin and were able to work their way back up to $670 when they struck a massive payline on high limit Wheel of Fortune Double Times Pay 3x4x5x® slots with the signature Wheel of Fortune 3x, 4x and 5x symbols landing across the reels. While they knew they had hit big, they didn’t immediately  realize they had won nearly $2 million on a $10 bet.

“My wife and I are both retired, and we’re moving to Melbourne, Florida, next month to be closer to our grandkids. This win really makes the life we’ve been planning with them even more special – and maybe a few Disney trips are in our future,” Louis said with a big smile.

The Wheel of Fortune jackpot is part of an interstate wide-area progressive, a network of linked machines that grows across multiple casinos until one lucky spin hits and the amount resets.  The last major Wheel of Fortune payout at Resorts occurred on March 1, 2025, when a player won $583,186 on another $10 wager. Resorts Casino Hotel continues to establish itself as a premiere destination for slot play, awarding more than $4.5 million in wide area progressive jackpots since 2020, with 30 players securing significant wins. In addition to slot success, table game players have also seen remarkable payouts, including a $622,189 win on August 1, 2025, from a $5 Cashspin progressive side bet, and most recently, an $882,920 jackpot won on March 17, 2026, on the same progressive.
