Camden County Sheriff’s Office Invites Kids to Help Name Robotic Dog

The Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team is calling on the youngest members of our community to help them name one of their newest members, a robotic dog, which has become an essential tool in public safety operations.

The robotic dog has been an operational asset of the Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team for the past year and has assisted in more than 20 investigations. The unarmed robotic dog is equipped with multiple cameras, allowing first responders to remotely assess and monitor incidents before entering potentially dangerous situations, including but not limited to hostage situations, barricades, hazardous material identification, and much more.

The robot is equipped with multiple cameras, a two-way microphone, a thermal imaging camera, portable gas detector, grippers, and lights. The robot dog is remotely operated by a trained member of the Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team using an android tablet.

“While we will always rely on the skills and experience of our human officers and canine partners, integrating this new technology into our operations has given our team another tool to keep our residents safe,” said Camden County Sheriff Chuck Billingham. “It has already proven that it can do the job, and even robot dogs need a name. We look forward to seeing all the creative ideas that children throughout Camden County come up with.”

Parents/guardians can submit their child’s name suggestions through October 31 to contest@sheriffcc.com.
