Local Family Presents Special Assembly This Thursday
This Thursday, June 4th, is a special day at the R. W. Kershaw School in Mt. Ephraim. The 5th through 8th grade students are wearing their \”Hawaiiana\” to school to help celebrate the cultures of Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand. In a special assembly they will learn about the music and dance of the South Sea Islands of Polynesia. Teachers have been highlighting Polynesia in their lessons. Even the cafeteria is participating by serving Hawaiian food for lunch, including a chicken and rice dish and pineapple.
The family of 6th grader, Haku Misawic, will perform the assembly. Haku is a music student of band director, Mary Manion. Haku was born in Philadelphia, but has been schooled by his family about his Samoan ancestry. Mrs. Manion has a brother currently living in New Zealand.
