A Holiday Message to Gloucester Township Residents From Police Chief Harkins

As we reflect on the past year, we are honored that we helped make Gloucester Township a great place to live, work, and play. We look forward to making 2020 an even better year. We will continue to use cutting edge methods and programs to interact with community members, to make the Gloucester Township Police Department the very best that it can be.

Multi-Alarm Fire in Sicklerville, One Fatality

SICKLERVILLE NJ—Thursday December 19, 2019 at approximately 2:17 PM, officers responded to a residence on the 600 block of Jarvis Road in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township for a fire. Upon arrival of officers, they observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence. One of the residents was located outside the residence suffering from burns.

Fire and EMS units from Gloucester Township, Pine Hill, Winslow, Lindenwold, Camden County OEM and Cherry Hill Rehab were on location and assisted with extinguishing the fire.

One (1) fatality was reported. A 27 year old male was transported to a local hospital for treatment for burns.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department Investigations Bureau, Camden County Prosecutors Office, Camden County Fire Marshal and the New Jersey State Division of Fire Service.

Two (2) families were displaced from the residence which is a duplex style home and received assistance from the American Red Cross and Gloucester Township OEM.

GTPD Participating In Statewide Impaired Driving Enforcement Crackdown

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ (Dec. 4, 2019)–Beginning December 6, 2019 and continuing through January 1, 2020, local and state law enforcement officers will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated. The Gloucester Township Police will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs as part of the annual end of year “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort endeavors to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through a combination of high-visibility enforcement and public education. During the last five years New Jersey has experienced nearly 37,000 alcohol involved crashes resulting in more than 679 fatalities. Last year, 20% of all motor vehicle fatalities in New Jersey were alcohol-related. Just last year, 10,511 people died in drunk driving crashes across the nation. The societal cost associated with these crashes is estimated to be $44 billion annually.

We want to offer the following advice for the holiday season:

• Take mass transit, a taxicab, rideshare service or ask a sober friend to drive you home.

• Spend the night where the activity or party is held.

• If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement.

• Always buckle-up, every ride. It’s your best defense against an impaired driver.

• Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel.

The timing of this initiative is even more important given it coincides with the holidays where we see an increase in traffic volume due to celebrations involving family and friends as well as numerous shopping trips to retail businesses. The Gloucester Township Police Department is committed to ensuring everyone gets to where they are going safely by enforcing aggressive driving behaviors and detecting and arresting those driving while under the influence. We want to reinforce the importance of safe driving behaviors in an effort to save a life or prevent a serious injury.

Heroin, Marijuana and 9mm Ammunition Found During Raid at Millbridge Garden Apts.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Nov. 26, 2019)–Today, at approximately 06:00 AM, the Gloucester Township Police Special Response Team (SRT) executed a narcotics related search warrant at 1341 Blackwood-Clementon Rd. (Millbridge Garden Apartments). A long term investigation by the Gloucester Township Special Investigations Unit (SIU) led to the arrest of 29 year old

DVaughn White

of Gloucester Township.

During the search of the apartment, a quantity of heroin, marijuana, and 9mm ammunition were recovered. A significant amount of U.S. currency was seized from the suspected heroin dealer.

These restorative Community Policing efforts encouraged residents to take back their community, and assist the Gloucester Township Police Department with keeping our community safe. Heroin is a highly addictive drug where its use has long been associated with crime because many addicted people turn to theft, prostitution, and various other criminal activities to obtain money to buy the drugs. The Gloucester Township Police Department has implemented a number of initiatives and programs to combat the abuse of dangerous narcotics which do led to reported fatal overdoses. The arrest of this individual is another example of the pro-active law enforcement campaigns targeting those who illegally distribute narcotics in Gloucester Township. The Gloucester Township Police Department will continue to attack this scourge, with the assistance of local, state, and federal partnerships, the abuse, and sale of this highly addictive drug in our community.

Charged with Manufacturing, Distribution of CDS (Heroin) (2nd Degree), Money Laundering (3rd Degree), Certain Persons not to Possess a Firearm (2nd Degree), Possession of CDS (3rd Degree), and Possession of CDS (Disorderly Person). White was remanded to the Camden County correctional Facility in accordance with N.J. Bail Reform.

Camden County Association of Chiefs of Police has partnered with Policeapp

The Camden County Association of Chiefs of Police has partnered with Policeapp to provide regionalized testing for possible available police positions in Camden County over the next 12 months. All participating agencies will have access to the results of the test to improve their application pool for Class I, Class II, Class III, and full time positions (non-civil service for full time positions).
