Obituary for Mrs. Nicolina Balsama

Nicolina Balsama, (née Amato) age 90, of Gloucester Twp., NJ formerly from South Philly, was reunited with her husband John in Heaven on August 23, 2015.

Legacy
Nicolina was born and raised in S. Philly by her loving Italian parents, Raffael and Vittoria Amato. She worked many years as a seamstress, picking fresh food for NJ farmers, and dedicated a career to the Phila. Board of Education. Her truest pleasure was to be surrounded by her loving family and preparing delicious meals for them all to enjoy.

Beloved wife of 64 years to the late John F.; Devoted mother of Kathleen A. McGuinness (John), John N. Balsama (Kathy), and the late Victoria Balsama; Treasured grandmother of Nicole Lasecki (Adam), Kimberly McGuinness (Jack Leary), Kelly McGuinness, Ashley Meadows (Anthony), Christopher, and the late Kevin John Archer; Adored great grandmother of Adam Jr., Nicolina V., Domenic, Annabella, and Emma; Dear sister to Rosie Tropiano (Domenic), and the late Mary, Katie, and Joseph; Cherished aunt to many.

Gloucester City is in a financial crisis. Our City’s annual budget continues to grow as our liabilities and overheads swell. Our revenues are down and our property taxes continue to rise as our City attempts to get a handle on it’s soon-to- be crushing debt load.

 To help solve this crisis we must rediscover Gloucester City’s history of manufacturing and the commercial industry. The Water Street Industrial Zone was once home to numerous manufacturing companies which paid substantial tax revenues to our City, employed hundreds upon hundreds of area workers and bolstered our local economy. Huge holes in our tax revenue, employment rate and total commerce were created when these companies left Gloucester City. Subsequently, property taxes and state aid requirements have increased as our community has become unable to support its obligations.

Suspect wanted for attempted murder apprehended with handgun and drugs

 

(Camden, NJ) – Camden County Police Department detectives working as part of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force tracked down and arrested a suspect wanted for attempted murder Saturday who was armed with a handgun and in possession of drugs.

Just after 1 a.m. Saturday, Detective Brian Razzi and other members of the Marshals Task Force observed Rashon Warrington, 23, of Pine Hill, at a residence on the 1100 block of Chase Street. Warrington was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants stemming from a shooting on June 21.

How US Sugar Policies Just Helped America Lose 600 Jobs

The manufacturer of Oreo cookies recently announced plans to move production of Oreos from Chicago to Mexico, resulting in a loss of 600 U.S. jobs.

This should be a wake-up call to defenders of the U.S. sugar program and other job-destroying trade barriers.

The leading ingredient in Oreos is sugar, and U.S. trade barriers currently require Americans to pay twice the average world prices for sugar.

Sugar-using industries now have a big incentive to relocate from the United States to countries where access to their primary ingredient is not restricted.
