TRENTON – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced that a former Camden City firefighter was indicted today by a state grand jury on a charge that he stole more than $82,000 by fraudulently collecting a disability pension from the New Jersey Police and Firemen’s Retirement System while working as a martial arts instructor and participating in competitive mixed martial arts.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—There aren’t any direct flights from Oxnard to Lawrenceville, but that is the route a talented infielder from California is taking to become a Bronc.
The Rider University baseball team has added sophomore Mikey Volaski of Oxnard, California to the 2016 roster, Rider head coach Barry Davis announced Tuesday.
\”Mikey will add to our infield immediately,\” said Davis, the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. \”He can play all three infield positions and shows upside to be a quality offensive player. His experience will be an asset on roster made up of primarily freshmen and sophomores.\”

Half a world away from the U.S. health care debate,Japan has a system that costs half as much and often achieves better medical results than its U.S. counterpart.It does so by banning insurance company profits, limiting doctor fees and accepting shortcomings in care that many well-insured Americans find intolerable.
The Japanese visit a doctor nearly 14 times a year, more than four times as often as Americans do.They can choose any primary care physician or specialist they want,and surveys show they are almost always seen on the day they want.
All that medical care helps keep the Japanese alive longer than any other people on Earth while fostering one of the World\’s lowest infant mortality rates.
Health care in Japan-a hybased system funded by job-based insurance premiums and taxes-is universal and mandatory, and consumes about 8% percent of the nation\’s gross domestic product,half as much as in the United States.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) agriculture specialists at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport seized over 19 pounds of sugarcane discovered in a passenger’s suitcase by a CBP K-9. The traveler arrived from Port-au-Prince, Haiti on June 16.

The passenger did not declare the sugarcane when asked by CBP agriculture specialists if they had any fruits, plants or meat products. The individual was referred for agriculture secondary inspection and declined to amend the declaration.
CBP officers searched the suitcase and discovered the stalks of sugarcane. CBP seized the sugarcane and assessed a mitigated penalty for failing to declare the products. The prohibited items were seized and disposed of into the U.S. Department of Agriculture regulated garbage for incineration.

Sisters Maria and Jorene taught each other languages, visited homelands, and became family, long before becoming vowed sisters. The two met at Saint Mary\’s Grammar School in Gloucester City NJ in 1958

Dominican Sisters of Hope Maria Barbera, OP, and Jorene Cieciuch, OP, encounter each other as any two sisters would: hands entwined, kisses on the cheek, both beaming. When they meet, it’s obvious that they’ve been friends since before the Dominican Sisters of Hope was founded, since before Maria was a Dominican Sister at all, for fifty-six years, exactly. It’s not obvious, though, that Sisters Maria and Jorene have taught each other languages, revisited homelands, and become family when biological family was lost, long before becoming vowed sisters.

The federal Food and Drug Administration approved new rules last week that will effectively ban trans fats within three years, forever changing the face of snacking and fast food. Specifically, the FDA is going after partially hydrogenated oils, the main ingredient in the trans fats that liter the diets of many Americans.

Food companies have until 2018 to remove the oils from their products.
But does the government have the power to force people to eat healthy?
The FDA is charged, in part, with protecting Americans from food that is unsafe to eat. They inspect meat, for example, to make sure we’re not going to get mad cow disease.
