On a recent sunny Sunday, 2,000 youth from the state of New Jersey converged at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, for a day of coasters, cotton candy and communion.
The 10th annual Catholic Youth Rally included youth and parish youth ministers from throughout New Jersey. As it was its turn in the rotation, the Diocese of Camden hosted the day, with Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrating the closing Mass at 6 p.m. in the park’s Plymouth Rock Arena.

Nola Brittingham, 56, and Beverly T. Dance, 49, both face numerous criminal charges related to the attempted theft. They were charged following an investigation by the Office of Attorney General\’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
The investigation revealed Brittingham billed the Victims Compensation Assistance Program for personal care services she provided to a male gunshot victim when in fact the man was receiving care in a hospital.
According to a criminal complaint, agents learned Dance had allegedly falsified invoices based on false dates and information Brittingham, a friend, provided to her. Moreover, agents reported learning Brittingham and Dance billed for nearly 1,000 hours of service at a rate of $175 per hour.

A loving and quiet woman, Mary devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed taking care of her house and her children. Mary was quiet and strong but she was easy to make laugh. In her free time she was an avid reader and she watched General Hospital. Mary will be missed by all who knew her.

WXTU RADIO CONCERT BRAWL—The annual 92.5 WXTU Radio Concert held at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden City on Saturday night, May 30, 2015 attracted the usual rowdy 20-year-old concert goers who are unable to enjoy themselves without getting drunk and fighting. It is not just young men, young women are also out of control. As they have done at previous WXTU concerts the thugs and hoodlums gather early in the day to tailgate and get smashed at parking lots that are near the center.
According to WPVI, this past Saturday two people were sent to the hospital after a brawl broke out among tailgaters.
A 51-year-old Mt. Ephraim woman, who did not want to be identified, says she and her 30-something-year-old son were in the 2nd Street near Clinton Street parking lot when they were attacked by a group of people.
The woman says she was dragged through the parking lot while her son was badly beaten, being punched repeatedly in the face and head.
Authorities say another person was stabbed in the hand.
Three victims were taken to Cooper Medical Center for treatment. No word on their conditions.
Witnesses say there was a lot of drinking going on in that parking lot.
The 92.5 XTU Philadelphia Country Station concert in Camden has been the scene of numerous fights over the years.
In 2011, over a 100 fans were fighting in the parking lot. A police officer was stabbed in the chest and had to be treated at the hospital.
The following year Camden police arrested 191 people. That same year 193 people were treated for injuries and illnesses, and 10 people had to be transported to nearby hospitals for more serious injuries. That day an SUV slammed into a vehicle carrying concert bound country music fans, killing one, police said
It makes you wonder why Camden City officials tolerate this kind of lawlessness.
Attorney Richard Hollawell, a personal injury lawyer said in 2013 that he blames the concert promoter for the unruliness. He represented a man that year who claimed he was viciously assaulted by some concert-goers.
\”He was repeatedly punched, kicked and mercilessly beaten by a group of kids attending the concert,\” Hollawell said. \”He fractured his orbital, nose and jaw. He has had multiple surgeries.\”
LOCAL POST OFFICE CLOSED ON SATURDAY-Several people complained to CNBNews about the Gloucester City Post Office being closed last Saturday morning (May 30). From what we learned the employee scheduled to open the post office never showed up.
So what happened?
Postal spokesman Ray V. Daiutolo Sr. said, \”I understand the office did open, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The office hours for Saturday are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On behalf of the Postal Service, I apologize for any inconvenience this caused to our customers. It appears proper employee protocols were not followed. Management is addressing this to ensure it does not happen again.\”

A graduate of Ridley Senior High School Class of 1963, Carol worked for many years as an architectural secretary with Harbison Hough Livingston and Larson (H2L2) and Ewing Cole and later work as Membership Coordinator for American Institute of Architects in Philadelphia, PA. She is a charter member of the Glassboro Ladies Auxiliary.
Carol had a beautiful, clear soprano singing voice and was active in the church choir of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Chester, PA in her youth. She was also a member of the chorus during her junior and senior high school years.
Carol was a volunteer \”candy striper\” at Crozier Hospital while in high school and at that time hoped to become a registered nurse. She was an avid trivia collector and watched Jeopardy daily, often correctly answering all questions. Carol enjoyed gardening, classic films, reading mystery novels by her favorite authors and cooking for friends. Professionally, Carol was an exceptionally skilled architectural secretary who won first place twice in the annual competition to determine the fastest typist in Philadelphia.
Carol is survived by her husband, Robert L. Jones; sister, Linda D. Headley and several cousins including Barbara Hibbs Hughes.
Baptist Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Richard Gehret on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 am at the McCann Healey Funeral Home, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Burial will be held privately at a later date.

Here we go again, another proponent of recreating passenger rail service on the old tracks south of Camden has just been heard from. This time it is yet another state agency no one ever heard of named the \”Office of Smart Growth.\” According to a recent article in the Gloucester County Times \” . . their job is to provide smart growth in a state that has a minimum amount of open space.\” Where was this group when we needed them, before the excessive and rampant growth took place?
