GLOUCESTER CITY NJ–The soffit above the first floor outside hallway of the Quality Inn, Route 130 and Market Street, fell down earlier today (Sunday).

It is not known at this time what caused the soffit to fall. Nor do we know if anyone was injured.

Alert! The Government Accountability Office – the non-partisan watchdog arm of Congress – has released its \”High Risk\” report. The report comes out every other year (at the beginning of each new Congress) and is meant to serve as a menu for policymaker oversight. An area is considered \”high risk\” because of \”greater vulnerabilities to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement or the need for transformation to address economy, efficiency, or effectiveness challenges.\”

The GAO concentrates on high-level issues that are particularly problematic and then track the issues over time. So while it has 32 areas of concentration, only two are new to the 2015 report (\”Managing Risks and Improving Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care\” and \”Improving the Management of Information Technology (IT) Acquisitions and Operations\”). They note \”Solid, steady progress has been made in the majority of the high-risk areas.\” But we’ll note, none of the areas listed in the 2013 report are gone.

Following the election of University of Notre Dame President Father John Jenkins, C.S.C. to his third term, Notre Dame alumni spoke with The Cardinal Newman Society to share their reflections on how the University has damaged its Catholic identity and how it can pave a way forward by facilitating an increase in faithful Catholic faculty.

In his 2005 inaugural address, Fr. Jenkins shared a hopeful vision of Notre Dame’s future—one that would combine every aspect of academic excellence with its Catholic mission. He stressed the need for \”a great Catholic university for the 21st century, one of the pre-eminent research institutions in the world, a center for learning whose intellectual and religious traditions converge to make it a healing, unifying, enlightening force for a world deeply in need.\”

Reminder for the week: Anglers need fishing license, trout stamp, FIN number for trout season

DOVER (Feb. 20, 2015) – To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Natural Resources Police officers between Feb. 9-15 made 670 contacts with anglers, hunters, boaters and the general public, including 10 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks. Agents responded to 27 complaints and issued 14 citations, two of which were related to the C&D Canal Conservation Area and associated recreational trail, where there is an increased Fish & Wildlife Enforcement presence.

The University of Scranton plans to no longer include coverage for abortion in cases of rape, incest, and for the mother’s life in the University’s faculty and staff health care plans, according to an announcement from President Father Kevin Quinn, S.J., recently posted on the Jesuit university’s website. He explained that as a Catholic university, it must work to be consistent in light of all the Church’s moral teachings.

Program invests in America’s youngest children

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell today announced $386 million i n grant awards to states, territories, and nonprofit organizations to support the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (Home Visiting Program). These funds will allow states to continue to expand voluntary, evidence-based home visiting services to women during pregnancy and to parents with young children.

Beloved wife of George. Devoted mother of Lou Walker (Trish), Jennifer Walker, Coleen Brown and Mary Ann Leonard (Byron). Dear sister of Margie Mascio. Also survived by seven grandchildren. Mrs. Walker was a barber for 25 years, most recently at Al’s Barber Shop in Runnemede. 

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9pm Monday eve and 8:15 to 9:15am Tuesday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. 

Funeral Mass 10am Tuesday at Holy Child Parish, St. Teresa RC Church, Runnemede. 

Interment private.

NEWARK, N.J. – A Russian national appeared in Newark federal court today after being extradited from the Netherlands to face charges that he conspired in the largest international hacking and data breach scheme ever prosecuted in the United States, New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman, U.S. Secret Service Acting Director Joseph P. Clancy and Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell and announced.

Vladimir Drinkman, 34, of Syktyykar and Moscow, Russia, was arrested in the Netherlands on June 28, 2012, and charged in a scheme that targeted major corporate networks, stole more than 160 million credit card numbers, and resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. He had been detained by the Dutch authorities pending the resolution of the extradition proceedings.
