Irony. It can be ugly—especially in Catholic education.

\”There are more pro-choicers on campus than pro-lifers,\” claims a student at the Jesuit-run Seattle University, where a pro-life talk received significant backlash.

This talk \”is not for a G-rated audience,\” a professor warned students at another Jesuit institution, Fairfield University. And it certainly was not.

And a Gallup Poll on Common Core found that only one-third of public school parents are positive about the experimental standards. Two-thirds of public school teachers oppose Common Core testing. Yet many Catholic schools are voluntarily hopping on board this train wreck.

PHILADELPHIA—Fritzroy Brown, 37, and Thael Kuran, 22, both of Philadelphia, PA, were charged today by indictment with conspiracy to commit health care fraud and making false statements in connection with health care matters, arising from their operation of Brotherly Love Ambulance, Inc., announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. Fritzroy Brown was also charged with theft of government funds and wire fraud for obtaining unemployment benefits while working full time at Brotherly Love Ambulance.

HARRISBURG – Attorney General Kane today announced Medicaid fraud and other charges against a Philadelphia man for defrauding more than $82,000 by claiming to care for his brother when he was being cared for by a hospital, and after he died. 

The Attorney General\’s Medicaid Fraud Control Section presented evidence to a statewide investigating Grand Jury, which recommended charges against Terrance Jenkins, 61, 535 Mckinley St., Philadelphia.

According to the Grand Jury, Jenkins was responsible for providing care for his brother and was reimbursed through the Department of Public Welfare\’s Independence Waiver Program.

However, the Grand Jury found that Jenkins submitted fraudulent payment sheets for personal care attendant services for periods of time between May 2011 and June 2012 when his brother was actually receiving services at in-patient centers and hospitals. In addition, Jenkins allegedly continued to submit false claims for his brother for more than a year after he passed away on June 27, 2012.

Fall colors may be fading but trout fishing opportunities in New Jersey are not. On November 24 through 26 the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will be releasing 9,500 yearling brown and rainbow trout just in time for the long holiday weekend. These 8 – 10 inch trout, raised at the Pequest Trout Hatchery will be distributed into 23 lakes around the state. 

This winter stocking is in addition to the 25,000 trout released in October in 17 streams and 14 lakes. A number of those trout, including some of the 500 large rainbow broodstock, still remain for anglers. Trout stocked during the fall and winter are available for anglers throughout the winter into late spring. There are no closed dates during the fall and winter stocking, but anglers should consult the NJ Freshwater Fishing Digest for regulation and other information.

Ms. Hughes, a highly regarded Lady Rams’ assistant for 4 years, takes over for former coach Tom Sullivan, who stepped down following the 2014 season. She brings a long and successful history as an athlete and coach into her new position as the leader of one of South Jersey’s top scholastic softball programs.

Patricia Frazier (nee Tobias), aged 62 years, of the Oak Valley section of Deptford peacefully passed away on November 5, 2014.

Trenton, NJ –The New Jersey Department of Education today presented to the State Board of Education the results of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) and the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) for the 2013-14 school year. This is the final year of the assessments, as New Jersey transitions to the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or the PARCC assessments.

Statewide performance results remained relatively constant on both the NJASK and HSPA this year, with only slight increases or decreases from the positive results seen in 2013.
