Renee Carbin, 67, of Westville

Renee Carbin (nee Berry), age 67, of Westville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 16, 2026, at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, NJ.

Born in Camden, NJ to the late Raymond P. Berry, Sr. and Annamae Berry (nee Calhoun), Renee was a graduate of Gloucester City High School. Known for her warm personality and bright spirit, she was a true social butterfly who loved connecting with people. For many years, she brought smiles to her community working as a deli clerk for Acme in Audubon, NJ, and was a proud member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 152. Above all else, Renee was an avid animal lover with a deeply compassionate heart.

Renee was one of the kindest and most compassionate people you could ever meet, always willing to help anyone in need. She had a deep love for music and could often be found dancing with joy. Renee embraced life with enthusiasm, enjoying celebrations and creating lasting memories with family and friends. She especially cherished traveling with her sisters and her late cousin, Ronnie, to the Chesapeake in Maryland, where they shared many treasured moments together.

She is survived by her devoted children, Thomas Anthony Carbin, II (Stephanie Pierson) and Christina Renee Carbin. She was the cherished grandmother of Thomas A. Carbin, III and Jayson Sommerkamp. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Christine Brennan (the late Gary), Barbara Emmons (the late Brian) and Raymond P. Berry, Jr. (Terry), as well as her beloved nephew, Michael Helms, and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Jim was a unique personality — blunt, direct, and sometimes misunderstood by those who didn’t know him well. But beneath that gruff exterior was a man defined by generosity, loyalty, and quiet compassion.

A Life of Service to His Community

Jim devoted decades of service to the Brooklawn Fire Department, often driving the ambulance and responding to emergency calls late at night. He supported local police, youth sports teams, and was frequently the first to offer financial help to Brooklawn and Gloucester City residents who had fallen on hard times. He didn’t talk about the good he did; he simply did it.

Clare T. Oehlers, 75, of Audubon

On July 13, 2026, of Audubon, NJ. She was 75 years old.

Beloved wife of 48 years to Jeffrey L. Oehlers. Dear mother of Adam Oehlers and Lindsay (Steven) Marshall. Loving grandmother of Olivia and Derek Marshall. She is also lovingly survived by her brothers, Mark (Jean) Rogerino and Gregory (Debbie) Rogerino and nieces and nephews.

Clare was a 1969 graduate of Audubon High School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and child advocate.

Bernice R. Carey, 74, of Collingswood

Peacefully on July 12, 2026, lifelong resident of Collingswood, NJ. She was 74 years old.

Beloved wife of 47 years to the late William “Bill” Carey. Dear mother of Kimberley (Fran) Weikel and Kevin (Katie) Carey. Loving grandmother of Brett, Mackenzie, Franny, Billy, Tommy, Seanie, Kevie, Allie and Ashley. She is also lovingly survived by her sister, Brenda (Dan) Wawrzyniak.

Bernice was a member of the first graduating class at Paul VI High School in 1969. She worked as a credit investigator for United Jersey Bank and more recently was a longtime crossing guard on Haddon Ave. in Collingswood. Bernice also enjoyed the beach, casinos and spending quality time with her family.

Roland E. Heilig, 93, of Haddon Township

Peacefully on July 9, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. A longtime resident of Haddon Township, NJ, Roland was 93 years old.

Beloved husband of 67 years to Joan D. Heilig (nee Harrop). Loving father of Susan (Stephen) Selby and Paul (Catherine) Heilig. Devoted granddad to Stephen (Lindsey) Selby, Michael Selby, Tyler (Sabrina) Selby, Shelby (Enzo) Frasca and Paul (Jessica) Heilig, Jr. and great grandfather to Sawyer, Stephen, Tyler and Colt. He is also survived by his brother, Ken (the late Mary) Heilig, nieces and nephews.

Timothy Durkin Brenna, 78, of Voorhees Township

Timothy “Tim” Durkin Brennan, age 78, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Voorhees Township, NJ. Born in Camden, NJ to the late Thomas Brennan and Gladys Brennan (née Durkin), Tim was a longtime resident of Stratford, NJ.

A proud graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School (Class of 1965), Tim went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the Air National Guard. Tim spent his professional career working as an Auditor for the State of New Jersey’s Division of Taxation as well as a Tax Preparation Accountant alongside his wife, Charlene, out of their home in Stratford.

Outside of his professional life, Tim was a man of diverse interests. He loved playing racquetball, spending time at the shore and on the beach, and he had a passion for treasure hunting with his metal detector. He was an avid gardener who took pride in growing tomatoes and green beans, and he spent many joyful hours coaching and cheering at his kids’ sporting events.

Tim shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Charlene E. Brennan (née Kelley). He was a devoted father to his sons, Mike Brennan (Michele) and Jon Brennan (Jeannine). He was also the cherished Pop-Pop of Rachel, Emily, Ava, and Aidan Brennan. Tim was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Brennan and Gladys Brennan (née Durkin), and his sister, Catherine Brennan, who passed away in 2017.

In the loving care of her family, Eileen passed peacefully on July 1, 2026, at home in Gloucester City, at the age of 66.

Born in Camden, NJ to the late Edward P. Ryan, Sr. and Lorraine A. Ryan (nee Costello). Eileen was raised in Fairview and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, class of 1978.

Loving wife of 31 years to James M. Koontz. Loving mother of Kelly Loebell (Ted). Beloved grandmother of Ayden, Emma and Evan. Loving sister of Edward Ryan (Susan), Robert Ryan (Kathleen) and Susan DeMaria (John). Beloved sister-in-law of Robert Koontz (Barbara). Also survived by many loving nieces, nephew sand cousins.

Kathleen Ann Brandt, 70, of Gloucester City

On June 24, 2026, Kathleen Ann Brandt (née Dickson), age 70, passed away suddenly at her home in Gloucester City, NJ.

Born in Woodbury, NJ to the late John D. Dickson, Sr. and Anna T. Dickson (née Ashe), Kathleen was a lifelong resident of Gloucester City. She graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1973 and went on to earn her Associate’s degree. Kathleen dedicated over 29 years of service as a secretary for the Gloucester City School District, where her familiar face and warm presence welcomed generations of students and staff.

To know Kathleen was to know her vibrant spirit and love for life’s simple pleasures. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren excel with their sports and extracurricular activities. Kathy thoroughly enjoyed hunting for treasures at yard sales, and loved arts and crafts. Above all else, she cherished her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Kathleen will also be fondly remembered for her uniquely endearing trait—always being lovingly, fashionably “late for everything.”

She is survived by her loving children, Michael Burkhardt, Steven Burkhardt (Trish), Andrew Brandt (Eileen), and Jenna Brandt (Jenn); her cherished grandchildren, Domenica Chapman (Zack), Steven Burkhardt, Jr., Michael Burkhardt, III, Trevin Burkhardt, Ni’Asia Connelly, and Bria Brandt; her devoted companion, Kenny Settar; her brother, John Dickson, Jr. (Alice); and her sisters, Peggy Chiodi (Randy) and Denise Robinson. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her brother, David Dickson; and her sister, Barbara Ann Pollander (surviving Bruce). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John “Jack” R. Sweeten, 66, of Gloucester City

On June 22nd, 2026, at the age of 66, John “Jack” Sweeten, beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away at home. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jack later made his home in Brooklawn and eventually Gloucester City, where he built a life defined by creativity, dedication, and deep devotion to those he loved.

A graduate of Gloucester City High School, Class of 1978, Jack continued his education at an art college in Philadelphia, nurturing the artistic talent that would remain a lifelong passion. Jack loved music—especially drumming—and his artistic spirit showed in everything he touched. Whether behind a drum kit, sketching, or simply appreciating the beauty in everyday moments, Jack brought color and rhythm into the world around him.

Jack worked as a pressman for over 40 years, a career marked by skill, reliability, and pride in his craft. He spent many years with AFL Printing and Bartash Printing before retiring from Inserts East after a long and dedicated tenure. His colleagues knew him as steady, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand.

Above all, Jack loved his family. He was married to his devoted spouse, Janine Sweeten (née Paullin), for 30 years, a partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and shared joy. His warmth, humor, and kindness made him a steady presence and a source of comfort to those closest to him.

George H. Kuykendall, 81, of Haddonfield

The Reverend Dr. George Henry Kuykendall Jr., of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 81, with his beloved wife, Joyce, by his side.

George was born on July 3, 1944, in Mocksville, North Carolina, to George and Jane Kuykendall. He grew up in Charlotte with his sister Jane and graduated from Davidson College. He later earned a Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) in Systematic Theology from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1967, George married Joyce Bynum in Atlanta. They shared fifty-nine years of marriage.

George’s early years at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, were formative. He was baptized and confirmed, and later mentored by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Durway. Early ministry experiences during the tumultuous late 1960s resulted in lifelong friendships, influenced George’s call to seminary, and shaped his enduring academic passion.

George’s life was marked by faith, learning, and teaching. Over the course of his career, he taught and served in a variety of settings, including St. Mary’s Seminary, St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute, Fordham University, Suffern Presbyterian Church, Collingswood Presbyterian Church, and Cape May County Technical School. He loved teaching best, and he brought to it a deep seriousness about ideas, language, faith, and the life of the mind.
