(CAMDEN, NJ) — Cooper University Health Care has reached a major milestone in trauma care, administering its 1,000th whole blood transfusion to a critically injured patient. As South Jersey’s only Level I Trauma Center, Cooper leads the region in advancing trauma care by expanding access to whole blood beyond the hospital in the field through partnerships with emergency medical services throughout the area.

Early A.M Standoff in Gloucester City, Suspect Arrested

GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. — A 39-year-old Gloucester City man is behind bars after police say he doused a Ridgeway Street home and two people inside it with lighter fluid early Thursday, then barricaded himself inside the residence and triggered a roughly two-hour standoff with law enforcement.

Eugene Jackson, of Gloucester City, was taken into custody without incident at about 2:36 a.m., according to the Gloucester City Police Department.

Officers responded to a home in the 600 block of Ridgeway Street around 1 a.m. following reports of a man pouring lighter fluid over the residence and its occupants. By the time police arrived, the two victims had managed to escape the house unharmed, authorities said. Jackson, however, remained inside and refused to come out, police said.

Found Human Remains Identified

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland in coordination with Chief Tracey Super of the Middle Township Police Department and Chief Donald Vanaman Jr. of the Lower Township Police Department announce that human remains found in Middle Township on March 3, 2026, have been positively identified as Benjamin J. Beason, 42, of Lower Township, New Jersey.
Mr. Beason was previously reported missing to the Lower Township Police Department on May 22, 2024

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Hosted by Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital & Moss Rehab Institute for Brain Health

On September 11, 2026, starting at 10:45 am, Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital and Jefferson Moss Rehab Institute for Brain Health (which treats veterans, national guard and first-responders with Traumatic Brain Injury) will host members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department, Cherry Hill Police Department, and members of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) at Cherry Hill High School West for a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Participants will be climbing 1067 steps, which is the amount of first responders that were killed on 9/11, as well as the ones that have since passed away from 9/11 related illness. The amount of steps equals approximately 60 flights, so participants plan on going from the 1st to the 6th floor of the hospital building, resulting in going up 5 times and down 5 times.

Howard L. Vaux, 78, Deptford

Howard L. Vaux, age 78, of Deptford, NJ, passed away on August 29, 2026 at home with his family by his side.

Born on December 26, 1947, in Richmond, VA, to the late Llewellyn “Bill” Vaux and Evelyn K. Vaux (née Ludwig), Howard was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1966; where he was an all-star football player and also excelled in track & field. He went on to further his studies and received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. He worked for many years as a Senior Account Executive at AT&T and the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. In his personal life, Howard was a passionate fan of the Eagles, Phillies and Sixers. He also enjoyed golf in his free time.

Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Patricia A. “Patty” Vaux (née Carpenter); his parents, Llewellyn “Bill” Vaux and Evelyn K. Vaux (née Ludwig); and his brother, Stephen Vaux (survived by Kathy).

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital Opens New Interventional Radiology Suite

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital recently opened a new, hybrid interventional radiology suite, creating more opportunities for patients with conditions that require complex procedures (cardiac catheterization, neurosurgical, vascular intervention) to receive high-quality, specialized care close to home. The suite is Jefferson Washington Township Hospital’s third to be approved by the New Jersey Department of Health, and its creation further strengthens Jefferson’s Bruce & Robbi Toll Heart and Vascular Institute and Vickie & Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience.

Upper Township Awarded Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant

New Jersey American Water presented Upper Township, N.J. with a $2,282.09 grant as part of the company’s 2026 Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant Program, which awarded about $50,000 to 21 volunteer fire and EMS departments across its service areas. The township will use the funding to purchase four Motorola Monitor 7 Voice Pagers with extended warranties and programming for the units, helping first responders receive emergency notifications and communications more effectively.
