Yasmin Harris of Rowan women’s lacrosse team has been named to the 2025-26 Allstate NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) Good Works Team (Spring), as part of a group of 20 student-athletes who lead in their sport, academics and in communities across the country.

The Allstate NACDA Good Works Team was created to spotlight student-athletes for their meaningful community service. Honorees include men and women from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and junior/community colleges, with student-athletes recognized each season across spring, fall and winter sports.

Suspect Charged After Highway Patrol Officer Shot During North Philadelphia Traffic Stop

The Philadelphia Police Department is providing an update on the investigation into the shooting of a Highway Patrol officer that occurred Monday evening in North Philadelphia.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Rashid Walker. Walker has been officially charged with Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA) following the incident in the 2400 block of North 17th Street.

The investigation began at approximately 7:40 p.m. on May 4, 2026, when Highway Patrol officers conducted a vehicle stop. As an officer performed a safety frisk of Walker, who was a passenger in the vehicle, the officer felt a handgun inside Walker’s jacket pocket. At that point, the firearm discharged, striking the officer in the upper right leg.

The wounded officer was rushed to Temple University Hospital by fellow personnel and remains in stable condition.

Walker was taken into custody at the scene, and the firearm was successfully recovered.

The Homicide Division continues to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discharge.

Overnight Crime Incidents in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (May 7, 2026)(CNBNews)--The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Wednesday night in the city’s 17th District. At approximately 10:31 p.m. on May 6, 2026, officers responded to a report of a large crowd and disturbance on the highway along the 2100 block of Wharton Street. While arriving at the scene, responding officers heard several gunshots and discovered a male victim lying on the street suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and leg.

Police immediately transported the victim to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 11:00 p.m. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Walter S. Holloway, a resident of the 2200 block of Oakford Street.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made, and no weapons have been recovered. Investigators are still working to determine a motive. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or submit an anonymous tip at 215-686-TIPS.

(TRENTON) — Legislation from Assemblyman Ravi Bhalla (D-Hoboken) and Assemblywoman Katie Brennan (D-Jersey City) to safeguard human rights during the 2026 FIFA World Cup advanced today out of the Assembly Community Development and Women’s Affairs Committee.

Bill A3991 would require certain State agencies, municipalities, and other entities involved in hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup and related festivities to submit reports documenting how they are meeting the commitments laid out in the NY/NJ Human Rights Report and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Human Rights Framework.
