Looking Back and Marching Ahead: Three Years at Taylor’s Mill

“Someone called me and said there were stones in the road. I turned around, told them I was on my way, and asked my husband to grab the camera and meet me at the mill.”

Patricia Fisher-Olsen feared the worst after the Tewksbury earthquake in April 2024. The effort to save Taylor’s Mill was less than a year old: the site had been vandalized, a truck had run into the corner, and now parts of the mill building were lying in the middle of road.

“It could have gone either way at that point,” said Fisher-Olsen, a Trustee of the Friends of Taylor’s Mill, and the Chair of the Historic Preservation Commission in Readington Township (Hunterdon County). “But we knew what the mill meant to the Revolution- and it still had stories to tell. We went into action.”
