The Philadelphia Police Department is asking the public for assistance in locating 29-year-old Sophia Ndow and her 2-month-old daughter, Nazara Burgos, who have been reported missing from their South Philadelphia home.
The investigation began after Ndow was last seen on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026 when she departed her residence on the 400 block of Washington Avenue with her infant daughter. Their whereabouts are unknown.
Ndow is described as a Black female, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 100 pounds. Her daughter, Nazara, is a 2-month-old Black female. There is no clothing description at this time.
On January 18, 2026, at approximately 6:39 a.m., a robbery occurred at the intersection of Benner Street and Castor Avenue while a 66-year-old female victim was waiting for a Route 59 SEPTA bus. At least two offenders exited a red Jeep SUV, and one offender, described as a masked Black female in her twenties, grabbed the victim’s bookbag. A struggle ensued, during which the victim was knocked to the ground and dragged. The offender then produced a taser and used it on the victim’s arms and hands in an attempt to force her to release the bag. The offender ultimately succeeded, and the suspects fled the scene in the red Jeep SUV.

The following information is preliminary and subject to change. On January 30, 2026, at approximately 6:46 p.m., officers from the 39th District responded to a report of a person shot in the 200 block of West Chelten Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim was transported by police to a local hospital, where he was taken into surgery and listed in critical condition. Officers observed and secured a crime scene extending from the 200 block to the 100–200 block of West Chelten Avenue. Later that evening, a female suspect voluntarily reported to Police Headquarters and surrendered a firearm believed to be involved in the incident. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The firearm was secured. This information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues with the Shooting Investigation Group. Updates will be provided as they are received.

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Philadelphia International Airport announced today the launch of Enhanced Passenger Processing technology at Philadelphia International Airport.
Enhanced Passenger Processing utilizes advanced facial comparison technology and biometric software to provide U.S. citizens with a touchless, seamless, and secure international arrivals experience. U.S. citizens experience the same high level of security assurance with fewer steps and reduced processing times.
The technology allows CBP officers to focus on traveler interaction and higher-risk travelers while automating routine processing for eligible U.S. citizens with no enforcement concerns.
EPP is available at 15 U.S. airports, six CBP Preclearance airports in Aruba, Canada, and Ireland, five seaport ports of entry, and one land border crossing. Since launching EPP nationally in August 2025, CBP officials have observed a 25% reduction in wait times for U.S. citizens.
