Rowan Names Rob DePersia ’19 as Head Men’s Basketball Coach

GLASSBORO, NJ – Rob DePersia has been named the head men’s basketball coach at Rowan University, marking a return to the program for the 2019 alumnus. Director of athletics Shawn Tucker announced the appointment as DePersia becomes the 14th head coach in the Profs’ history. 

DePersia returns to Glassboro after spending seven years at the Division I level. He worked for a total of five seasons with the Villanova University basketball program, including two with Naismith Hall of Fame coach Jay Wright, while also gaining experience at Fordham University, and most recently, at the University of New Haven.

Mike Joy To Serve as Honorary Starter for NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover Motor Speedway

Legendary FOX Sports broadcaster Mike Joy will add another milestone to his celebrated motorsports career this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, serving as the honorary starter by waving the green flag for Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at The Monster Mile.

The moment carries special meaning for Joy, who grew up in the Northeast and has spent decades calling races at many of the region’s most historic tracks. Despite more than five decades in motorsports broadcasting, Joy has never before served as the honorary starter for a NASCAR Cup Series race.

Somerdale Residents Win National Pool Championship in Vegas

A pair of Somerdale residents are $5,000 richer after a recent visit to Sin City. But their good fortune didn’t happen in the casino.

Joey Rivera and Jatin Bhakta of the team dubbed the “A-Team” won the 2026 APA 9-Ball Doubles Pool Championship late last month in Las Vegas.

Rowan Baseball Will Open Play in the NCAA Regional at Southern Maine

The fifth-ranked Rowan baseball team will begin play in the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in the Gorham, Maine Regional on May 15-17. The Profs will face RIT in the first game, with host Southern Maine and Babson rounding out the field in the double-elimination regional. 

Rowan and RIT (24-13) will face off in Game 1 of the regional (time tba) with Southern Maine (30-10) hosting Babson (26-13) in Game 2, with the tournament consisting of three games on Saturday and possibly two on Sunday.

Rowan Women’s Lacrosse Moves on to the NCAA Sweet 16

Elaina Corson and Madison Rothwein combined for five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter as #18 Rowan rallied to an exciting 13-11 win over #12 Scranton in the Second Round of the 2026 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Profs now advance to the Third Round next weekend at top-ranked and defending champion Middlebury.

Rothwein netted three straight goals, to tie the game and then give Rowan (15-4) a 12-11 lead. That goal on a free-position shot with 3:50 to play proved to be the gamewinner and Corson added the insurance goal at 1:26, her 79th goal of the season, to secure the victory.

Rowan Men’s Track & Field Captures Four Major Awards

#2 Rowan swept four of the five marquee awards as a total of 30 student-athletes were selected all-conference by the New Jersey Athletic Conference in its year-end men’s outdoor track & field honors.

Damitrius Hester was named the Thomas M. Gerrity Most Outstanding Athlete while Angel Gonzalez was chosen as the NJAC Outstanding Track Athlete and David Brown earned the NJAC Rookie of the Year. Head Coach Dustin Dimit and his staff were awarded the Bill Fritz Coaching Staff of the Year as well.

John “Rocky” Gianvito, One of Rutgers ‘ Greatest Baseball Players; formerly of Brooklawn

John Gianvito, age 86, passed away on May 1, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Punxsutawney, PA, and later moved with his family to West Philadelphia, before settling in Brooklawn, NJ. He proudly served his country in the United States military, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to duty and service. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career in administration with the Haddon Township School District,

A graduate of Gloucester High School, he attended Rutgers University–Camden and was later inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame, an honor that reflected his talent, dedication, and athletic achievement.

Rowan Women’s Lacrosse to Host NCAA Championship First and Second Round

The Rowan women’s lacrosse team has received an at-large bid to the 2026 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will host the First and Second Round on May 9 and 10 at the Rowan Soccer and Lacrosse Complex. 

Scranton will face St. Mary’s (MD) in the First Round on Saturday at 3 p.m. with the winner advancing to meet Rowan in the Second Round on Sunday at 3 p.m. 

In the top half of Rowan’s bracket, top-ranked Middlebury is hosting WestConn and St. John Fisher with the Second Round winners playing in the Regionals on May 16.

Rowan Women’s Track & Field Takes Home Conference Championship

The Rowan Women’s Track & Field Team won its first NJAC Championship since the 2019 season, unseating TCNJ in its quest for a sixth-straight title as the Profs totaled 211.5 points over the two-day meet held at Ramapo.

The title is the eighth in program history and first under head coach Shedrick Elliott III.

The Profs took home three first-place finishes on Sunday and a bevy of top 5 results to stave off the Lions (207 points) for the NJAC crown. Stockton took third (133) while Montclair State was fourth (113).

Rowan Men’s Track & Field Win 11th Conference Title in a Row

MAHWAH, NJ — #1 Rowan ran away with its 24th New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship and 11th title in a row on Sunday to cap the two-day meet hosted by Ramapo.

The Profs put together 319.33 points behind three-first place finishes on Saturday and eight more on Sunday. TCNJ was second with 213 points with host Ramapo in third (86.33).
