Wellpoint NJ Hosts Maternal Health Events 

This month Wellpoint New Jersey will be hosting a series of events with a focus on maternal health.  These events coincide with Black Maternal Health week, a week-long community-based initiative to raise awareness around black maternal health outcomes.  In New Jersey, black women have the highest rate of preterm births at 12.1% and a maternal mortality rate more than 7-8 times the national average. Additionally, about 54% of black women are Medicaid reliant.

This maternal and family programming is part of Wellpoint’s larger initiative to support the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of all mothers and young families.

Man Charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Paul E. Blight, 52, of Williamstown, was arrested and charged with one  count of second-degree possession of child sexual abuse material on Thursday,  Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced.  

According to documents filed in this case: 

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office received a tip from the National Center for  Missing and Exploited Children about an individual uploading filed of child sexual  abuse material (CSAM). An investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at  Blight’s residence where several electronic devices allegedly belonging to Blight were  found. Forensic analysis of the devices found they contained 33,956 images and 1,018  videos of CSAM.

Road Closures and Detours

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of April 20 to April 24. 

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

PSE&G will be working on East Atlantic Avenue from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a partial road eastbound between West Merchant Street & Dowling Avenue, a partial road closure eastbound between Chestnut Street & West Vassar Road.

Lundy Faces Severe Penalties for Opioid‑Prescribing Misconduct

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (April 19, 2026) — New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Consumer Affairs announced on Tuesday, April 14, that the State Board of Medical Examiners has permanently revoked the medical license of longtime Gloucester City physician Dr. Edward Lundy, following his guilty plea in federal court for conspiring to unlawfully distribute oxycodone.

Lundy, who practiced medicine in Gloucester City for 49 years, operated his office at 1017 Market Street, the site of a high‑profile FBI raid in July 2025. Agents were seen removing boxes of medical records from the building during the search, signaling the start of a sweeping federal investigation.

In January, Lundy appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to distribute more than 1,600 oxycodone pills outside the usual course of professional practice. He is scheduled to return to federal court for sentencing in May.

From Our Digital Files: 2 in Custody for Murder, 1 from Gloucester City

CAMDEN CITY, NJ (April 14, 2014)(CNBNews)—Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported two men are in custody in a double homicide from 2013.

Jorge Lopez, M/35, of Gloucester City, and Jose Cortes, M/38, of Riverton, are each charged with two counts of Murder for the deaths of Christopher Humphrey, M/34, of Franklinville, and Jose Vega, M/35, of Camden. The two victims were found fatally shot at 33rd and Farragut streets on December 22, 2013.

Lopez was arrested April 11 in Camden and Cortes was taken into custody Monday, April 14 in Riverton, NJ.

Letter to the Editor: Unconstitutional Partisan Gerrymander

I need to be completely honest with you about what is happening right now. A Virginia court has ruled the Democrats’ new congressional map an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander. Virginia Democrats put it on the April 21st ballot anyway. They are asking voters to ratify an act a court declared illegal — because they are betting that low turnout in a special election will carry them across the finish line before anyone can stop them. Nonpartisan political scientists have confirmed what we have argued from the beginning: this is the single most partisan gerrymander in the history of the United States. The new map hands Democrats a 10-1 congressional advantage in a state where President Trump won over 46% of the vote — because it was drawn with one purpose, to steal four Republican seats before the midterms begin. If this map passes, the midterm elections may be effectively over before a single November vote is cast.
Here’s what your contribution does today.
$50 puts our ad in front of 500 Virginia voters who haven’t seen the truth yet.
$250 funds a full day of digital outreach to low propensity voters.
$1,000 helps us counter Soros and Obama dollar-for-dollar in a single media market for 24 hours.

Road Closures and Detours

The I-676 southbound Exit 1B to Collings Avenue/Collingswood is scheduled to be closed and detoured as a bridge replacement and paving project advances in Camden and Gloucester City, Camden County. In addition, the Collings Road ramp to I-676 southbound is also scheduled to be closed overnight next week.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday, April 20 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 21 and continuing each night through Thursday, April 23 at the same time, the I-676 southbound Exit 1B to Collings Avenue/Collingswood and the Collings Road ramp to I-676 southbound are scheduled to be closed. The closures are necessary for drainage installation. The following detours will be in place:
