Rowan Men’s Soccer Rallies to Stay Unbeaten

GALLOWAY, NJ – Two goals in the final 30 minutes, by Greg Ferreira and Christian McGillen, powered the second-ranked Rowan men’s soccer team past Stockton, 2-1, on Wednesday night. With the win, Rowan remains unbeaten with an 11-0-3 mark, and a 5-0-2 conference record.

The game was tied, 0-0, at halftime, but Stockton’s Aiden Hoenisch scored 39 seconds into the second half, giving the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.

Fifteen minutes later, in the 61st minute, Korey Philpot threw the ball in towards the box. It was bobbled around, flicked towards the net by Evan Vilaboy, and knocked in by Ferreira on a rebound effort. It’s Ferreira’s third career goal, and second in the last two games. Vilaboy was credited with the assist.

With the game tied, 1-1, McGillen had a shot from 20 yards out that found the top right corner of the goal, giving Rowan a 2-1 lead with 13:21 remaining. It was the first gamewinner of the year for the senior.

Rowan keeper Mike Moore saw three shots on goal through the contest, making two saves, while the Profs had 11 total shots, with seven on goal.

The Profs will head to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 3 p.m. before returning home to host Rutgers-Camden on October 28.

Rowing Champions and Olympians Compete in Gold Cup on Cooper River

Camden County will welcome the world’s top rowers to the Cooper River on Saturday, October 24, for the prestigious Gold Cup. Featuring Olympians from five countries, the field will compete in an 833-meter head-to-head race for the title of Gold Cup Champion, and a $16,00 prize.

The men’s race brings back three-time defending champion, Melvin Twellaar of the Netherlands, now a newly crowned World Champion, alongside three challengers who finished among the world’s best single scullers this year. The women’s field is equally competitive. Lauren Henry of Great Britain enters as the sole contender for the $50,000 Gold Cup Triple Challenge, having already won the World Championships and Henley this year, a Gold Cup victory would make her the first athlete to complete the three-event challenge.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash Under Investigation

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, at approximately 9:48 p.m., a fatal motorcycle crash involving a passenger vehicle occurred at the intersection of New State Road and Longshore Avenue in the 15th District.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 black BMW was traveling northbound on New State Road and making a left turn to continue westbound on Longshore Avenue when it was struck by a 2026 black CFHG motorcycle traveling southbound on New State Road. The motorcycle operator reportedly came around a bend before the collision.

WANTED: Steven Velez-Cruz for Murder and Related Charges

Following a review of the facts of the below listed case, the District Attorneys office approved the following charges: Murder, Conspiracy, four counts of Attempted Murder, four counts of Aggravated Assault, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure, five counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP), Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA), and Possession of an Instrument of Crime (PIC).

The offender, Steven Velez-Cruz, a 20-year-old Hispanic male, is wanted in connection with this case.

Maryland Man Convicted of $18.7 Million Medicare Fraud

A federal jury in the District of Maryland convicted a laboratory owner yesterday for taking advantage of nursing homes that needed COVID-19 tests during the pandemic and fraudulently billing Medicare more than $18 million for other expensive respiratory tests that nursing home residents did not need, physicians did not order, and, in many cases, were never performed.

“Mr. Britton-Harr’s decision to exploit elderly nursing‑home residents and inexperienced interns for personal gain during a global pandemic is unconscionable. This verdict reinforces our message: there is nowhere to hide for those who commit fraud. We will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the District of Maryland. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office, along with our law-enforcement partners, remains committed to rooting out fraud and holding accountable those who exploit our vulnerable victims and who steal our taxpayer money.”
