PLUMSTED – The New Egypt High School girls basketball team put forth a banner season during the 2006-07 campaign.
In addition to registering 11 victories, the Lady Warriors earned a berth into the NJSIAA South Jersey Group I tournament.
\”This was a great season for our program,\” first-year coach Matt Brogan said. \”The girls worked really hard the entire season. All of our hard work paid off. It was a great accomplishment that we were able to qualify for the postseason. This is the kind of year we were hoping to have. It\’s going to help our program in the future.\”
Of course, New Egypt\’s first trip to the state tournament ended in disappointment. After playing a very competitive first half, Gloucester City was able to ignite its offense and eventually cruised to a 50-31 victory.
Despite the setback, Brogan was thrilled with the opportunity to showcase his squad in such an event.
\”We\’ve never been in a situation like this before,\” Brogan said. \”It was a learning experience for us. The kids who are coming back next year are going to gain from playing in this tournament. When you earn the right to play in the state tournament, you know your program is headed in the right direction.\”
New Egypt played an outstanding first half, limiting Gloucester City to just one shot each time down the floor. In addition, the Lady Warriors showed patience offensively, making the extra pass and getting the ball inside.
