Honoring his 30 years of volunteer service to the Gloucester City Little League and more than 25 years as a volunteer umpire, Little League International has selected Mr. Tony Eller of Brooklawn to umpire in the 2009 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
Tony is the first umpire from District 14 to earn this distinguished honor.
He, along with 15 other umpires from around the world, will handle the umpiring chores for the entire Series from August 20 to 30. Many games will be aired on ESPN and ESPN2, with the championship game on ABC.
The 16 umpires fill various positions during pool play. For the National, International and World Championship semi-finals and finals, the positions are awarded based on performance.
\”With Tony’s extensive umpiring resume and his previous experience as an umpire in the 2003 Little League Big League World Series in Easley, SC, and other regional, state section and district championship tournaments, we are sure he will represent himself, our League, our District, and New Jersey well,\” Gloucester City Little League officials said.
