This work is part of a $73.2 million federally funded bridge replacement and pavement improvement project in Camden and Gloucester City, Camden County. The project will replace the I-76/I-676 Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek, the I-676 southbound Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek and the I-76 Bridge over Nicholson Road. In addition, the project will improve safety and pavement conditions on I-76 and I-676, as well as replace noise barriers, upgrade drainage, update sign structures and install intelligent transportation systems (ITS) throughout the corridor.

Work for this project will begin with drainage improvements, with the majority of construction expected to take place off the roadway. Construction of precast bridge deck panels is expected to begin later this year and will take place off-site. Replacement of the bridge decks are expected to begin in 2026 and will require lane closures. NJDOT will provide advanced notification of any traffic impacts prior to work taking place.
