Delsea Drive/Route 47 is scheduled to have a single lane closed near Bennet Drive tonight and tomorrow night with traffic maintained using an alternating traffic pattern as a corridor improvement project advances in Deptford, Gloucester County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 26 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 and again on Wednesday, May 27 at the same time, a single lane is scheduled to be closed on Delsea Drive/Route 47 near Bennett Drive. The lane closures are necessary to restripe the roadway, place barrier and shift traffic. Restriping will take place tonight, and barrier will be paced tomorrow night. Alternating traffic will be maintained overnight on both nights.
By 6 a.m. Thursday, May 28, the right shoulder on Delsea Drive/Route 47 southbound will be closed. Traffic on Delsea Drive/Route 47 southbound will be shifted to the left onto the northbound travel lane, and traffic on Delsea Drive/Route 47 northbound will be shifted to the right onto the right shoulder. This traffic pattern will be in place for approximately one month, before switching the work zone over to Delsea Drive/Route 47 northbound. The traffic shifts are necessary for culvert repairs and parapet upgrades.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.
The work is part of the $59.2 million federally funded pavement preservation project that will reconstruct approximately 13 miles of Route 47/Delsea Drive from Grove Street (mile post 62.17) in Glassboro, Gloucester County to Route 130 (mile post 75.2) in Brooklawn, Camden County. The project will repair curbs and sidewalks, replace guiderail, and upgrade drainage, including repairing the existing Route 47 culvert over Woodbury Creek.
Safety and operational improvements will also be made to upgrade all 25 signalized intersections within the project limits, as well as upgrading lighting at signalized intersections and official mid-block pedestrian crossings. In addition, Route 47/Delsea Drive will be widened at Brenner Avenue to add an exclusive left-turn lane from Route 47 northbound onto Brenner Avenue, and at Fox Run Road to add exclusive left-turn lanes from Route 47 onto Fox Run Road. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2028.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
