
Overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound next week for structural steel installation as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County.
Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures
Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time and on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day, three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and
I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.
I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Lane and Ramp Closure
Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time, the left lane on I-295 northbound before Exit 27A and the I-295 northbound Exit 27A ramp to I-76 westbound are scheduled to be closed. At least two lanes are expected to be maintained on I-295 northbound.
In addition, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, June 5 until 8 a.m. Saturday, June 6 and again on Saturday, June 6 at the same time, the left and center lanes on I-295 northbound before Exit 27A and the I-295 northbound Exit 27A ramp to I-76 westbound are scheduled to be closed. At least one lane will be maintained on I-295 northbound.
The following detour will be in place Monday through Saturday nights:
I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling on I-295 northbound wishing to take Exit 27A to I-76 westbound will be directed to continue on I-295 northbound
- Take the left Exit 27B (old Exit 27) ramp to I-76 westbound
I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound Lane and Ramp Closure
Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time and on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day, the left lane on I-76 eastbound before the new Browning Road Bridge and the I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound are scheduled to be closed. The following detour will be in place:
I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound Primary Detour:
- Motorists traveling on I-76 eastbound to I-295 southbound will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound, which is before Exit 1A
- Take Exit 28/Route 168
- Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Route 168
- Take the ramp to I-295 southbound
I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound Secondary Detour:
- Motorists traveling on I-76 eastbound to I-295 southbound will be directed continue on Route 42 southbound
- Take Exit 12 to CR 544 to Route 41/Deptford/Woodbury/Runnemede
- Stay right to turn right onto Clements Bridge Road
- Turn right onto Route 41 southbound
- Take the ramp to Route 42 northbound/Camden/Philadelphia
- Take Exit 14A to I-295 southbound/Delaware Memorial Bridge
I-295 northbound Traffic Slowdowns
Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time and on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day, traffic slowdowns are scheduled to take place on I-295 northbound between the Creek Road/CR 753 Overpass (mile post 26.3) and the Browning Road/CR 659 Overpass (mile post 26.7). The New Jersey State police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns.
The lane and ramp closures, as well as traffic slowdowns, are necessary to install structural steel. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zones.

Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
