Virtua Lourdes Celebrates Construction Milestone

Virtua Health celebrated a key construction milestone on June 9 at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. The not-for-profit health system held a topping-off ceremony to mark the placement of the final steel beam atop the hospital’s new patient tower. The Marvin Samson Pavilion is part of a $500 million renovation and expansion at the Haddon Avenue institution, which marked its 75th anniversary last year.

The nearly 200,000-square-foot addition is slated for completion in the spring of 2028. It will increase the hospital’s size by 35%, and will serve as the hospital’s main entrance. The seven-story pavilion will have six floors for patient care.

The building is named for businessman and philanthropist Marvin Samson, who has pledged $5 million – the largest gift in Virtua’s history – in support of the health system’s education and workforce development programs.

Samson, a Virtua board member and longtime supporter, is also the namesake of the Virtua Samson Cancer Center in Moorestown, N.J.

Assembly Democrats Advance Another Bill to Lower Utility Costs for Residents

As part of the Assembly Democrats’ continued efforts to lower utility costs for ratepayers, the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee on Monday advanced A2757, which would close a critical loophole in the Federal Power Act that has resulted in added costs for New Jersey ratepayers. The legislation is sponsored by Assembly members Andrea Katz, Clinton Calabrese, and Ellen Park.

Shooting Investigation

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Group is currently investigating a shooting that left a man in extremely critical condition on Tuesday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

At approximately 4:35 p.m., officers from the 18th District responded to a residence on the 53xx block of Spruce Street, where they located an adult male inside the property suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers immediately transported the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was admitted and is currently listed in extremely critical condition. A person of interest has been taken into custody for further investigation. The scene is currently being held for processing. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Sicklerville Man Charged in Winslow Township Shooting

A Sicklerville man was arrested and charged following a shooting in Winslow Township on Friday, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Winslow Township Police Chief Donald Lemons. Jermine Jones, 33, was charged with 1st degree Attempted Murder, 2nd -degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, 2nd -degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and 3rd -degree Aggravated Assault.

TEDI Surpasses 500,000 Trees Planted

TEDI – the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative – recently surpassed the 500,000 trees planted mark or halfway

The state’s Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative (TEDI) has surpassed 500,000 plantings toward a goal of reaching 1 million by 2030, and has opened the application period for groups and organizations seeking funding for spring 2027 projects.

Eligible applicants include state agencies, conservation districts, counties, non-governmental organizations having 501(c)(3) status, municipalities, public school districts, private K-12 schools, colleges and universities, business entities responsible for corporate campuses and tribal governments.

Emily McCutcheon Selected CSC Softball Academic All-American

Emily McCutcheon earned national recognition with a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2026 Academic All-America® Division III Softball Second Team.

The senior becomes the eighth player in program history to earn the honor and the second in as many seasons to represent the Profs on the teams.

A Psychology major, McCutcheon is a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American, a three-time NFCA First-Team All-Region selection, and a three-time New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference pick. In the classroom, she is a two-time CSC Academic All-District and a NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention as well as a Rowan Scholar of Distinction and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma national student-athlete honor society.

Sherrill Administration Invites Public To Battle Of Monmouth Reenactment

In celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Sherrill Administration welcomes residents and visitors to attend the annual reenactment of the pivotal Battle of Monmouth at Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Monmouth County. The two-day living history event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

Family-friendly activities throughout the weekend will include military encampments, cannon and musket-firing demonstrations, children’s musket drills, Colonial-era music, a program about Molly Pitcher and a memorial service hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution. The weekend’s featured event, the Battle of Monmouth reenactment, will take place on both days, recreating one of the largest and longest battles of the Revolutionary War. A full schedule of events is available on the New Jersey State Parks website. “The story of our nation cannot be told without reflecting on the central role our great state played in its formation,” said Environmental Protection Acting Commissioner Ed Potosnak. “This year’s reenactment takes on even greater meaning as we celebrate this milestone birthday of America. We encourage the public to come to Monmouth Battlefield this weekend to appreciate the courage and determination of the brave soldiers who fought and died to gain our freedom, as well as the liberty and prosperity that have come to define New Jersey.” “Living history events like the Battle of Monmouth reenactment transform history from words on a page into something people can truly see, hear and experience,” said John Cecil, Assistant Commissioner for State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites. “Events like this underscore the importance of preserving New Jersey’s historic sites and passing the stories that unfolded here on to future generations.” A donation of $15 per vehicle is suggested. The annual reenactment is made possible through a partnership with the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, a New Jersey State Parks Officially Recognized Friends Organization.

Philadelphia Police Seek Public’s Help Locating Homicide Suspect Dennis Patton

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Division is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 42-year-old Dennis Patton, whose last known address is on the 2000 block of Titan Street.

An active arrest warrant has been issued for Patton in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 10:31 p.m., officers from the 17th District responded to a report of a crowd disturbance on the highway along the 2100 block of Wharton Street. While en route, officers heard gunshots and subsequently located 31-year-old Walter S. Holloway of the 2210 block of Oakford Street lying on the highway, suffering from gunshot wounds to his head and leg. Officers immediately transported Holloway to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:00 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Dennis Patton is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or submit an anonymous tip by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477). A $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
