I-676 southbound is scheduled have lane closures next week on Monday and Tuesday nights as a bridge replacement and paving project advances in Camden and Gloucester City, Camden County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, August 10 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, the right lane on I-676 southbound is scheduled to be closed between the Bridge over Newton Creek (mile post 0.6) and the I-76 Connector (mile post 0.2). A second lane will be closed at 9 p.m. Construction is expected to begin in the right lanes and move to the left as work progresses. The closure is necessary to restripe the roadway and shift traffic to the right in preparation for a long-term left lane closure, which will be implemented on Tuesday night. At least one lane will be maintained overnight.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, the left lane on I-676 southbound will be closed between the Bridge over Newton Creek (mile post 0.6) and the I-76 Connector (mile post 0.2). The closure is necessary to reposition construction barrier to implement a long-term left lane closure.
By 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, traffic on I-676 southbound will be reduced to two travel lanes and shifted to the right, before the bridge over Newton Creek. The existing two lanes on the bridge will be maintained and shifted to the right. The long-term lane closure is necessary to demolish and reconstruct the I-676 southbound bridge deck and parapet with precast materials. The lane closure is expected to remain in place through October 2026.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.
This work is part of a $73.2 million federally funded bridge replacement and pavement improvement project in Camden and Gloucester City, Camden County. The project will replace the I-76/I-676 Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek, the I-676 southbound Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek and the I-76 Bridge over Nicholson Road. In addition, the project will improve safety and pavement conditions on I-76 and I-676, as well as replace noise barriers, upgrade drainage, update sign structures and install intelligent transportation systems (ITS) throughout the corridor.
Construction of precast bridge deck panels began last year and is taking place off-site. Replacement of the bridge decks is expected to begin in August 2026 and will require lane closures. NJDOT will provide advanced notification of any traffic impacts prior to work taking place.

Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
