Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Donald Vanaman Jr. of the Lower Township Police Department announce the arrest of Edward McVey, 19, of Erma, New Jersey, in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on October 1, 2026.
On October 2, 2026, McVey was charged with second degree Vehicular Homicide (DUI), third degree Assault by Auto (DUI), and fourth degree Assault by Auto (Handheld Device).
These charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Lower Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office into a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Route 9 in the Erma section of Lower Township. The motor vehicle collision involved McVey’s vehicle colliding with another vehicle with two occupants, resulting in the fatality of a 56-year old male and the serious injury of 36-year old male.
McVey was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility on the above-mentioned charges, pending further court proceedings.
Prosecutor Sutherland advises that individuals charged with a second-degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of five (5) to ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison.
