ALEXANDER F. TRAKIMAS (March 7) Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Gloucester City for Alexander F. Trakimas, 70, who quietly passed away at home in Somerdale on February 18, 2013. Alex was rarely without a book in hand, the Barron’s newspaper and the Wall Street Journal. His beloved grandparents, Frank and Marie Sherrer, encouraged his love of reading and education when he was a child. He was born on October 21, 1942, the eldest son of the late Alexander and Theresa Trakimas (nee Sherrer) in Gloucester City. He was the loving brother of Patricia (Richard) Woodland, Joseph (Jackie), Ann (Charles) Adams, the late Frances and the late Suzanne. He attended Gloucester Catholic High School Class of 1961 and St. Joseph’s University Class of 1966. He worked as a stockbroker with Walston & Co. in Philadelphia for many years. He is survived by his children Patricia and Jennifer Roche and their mother Barbara, Alexis Chen, Justin and Matthew and their mother Carole. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Breslin, Jr., 85, of Stratford, CT, who passed away peacefully with his wife and two sons at this bedside on January 9, 2013. John was born in Philadelphia on January 11, 1927 to John E. Breslin, Sr. and Helen Breslin. He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School. Upon graduation John enlisted to fight in World War II. He served in the United States Navy as an original crew member aboard the USS Little Rock. It was while in the service of his country that John met his loving wife of 63 years, Lucille F. Tessier of Fall River, MA. In 1950, John and “Tess” Breslin become husband and wife. They made their home in Gloucester City, where John worked as a rigger and crane operator. In 1990, they moved to Stratford. John was active in retirement and enjoyed walking, photography, working with his model train collection, and traveling with his wife to visit his grandchildren and watch them compete in school sports. A true gentleman of great warmth and humor, John had a lifelong interest in and knowledge of history and geography. He will be missed by a loving family and his many friends and neighbors. Besides his wife, John is survived by his sons: Mark Breslin (Dianne Nolan) and their three sons Zachary, Andrew and John of Stamford, CT and Paul Breslin (Cathy) and their two children Samuel and Abigail of Wayland, MA. He is also survived by his younger brother Thomas Breslin (Dorothy) of Sewell and their five children Jeffrey, Susan, Carl, Patty and Kim. Mary was also a police matron for Bellmawr Police Dept. and retired from Camden County government services. Mary was a former Bellmawr Municipal Chair for Camden County Democratic Committee and a member of the Bellmawr Democrat Club. Beloved wife of the late James Baldwin. HARTSTEIN, PAUL E. (March 21) HONORED FIRE MARSHAL LAID TO REST By Chris Concannon Amid an enormous cortege that stretched as far as the eye could see, Chief Fire Marshall Paul E. Hartstein II was laid to rest on March 16. Chief Hartstein lost his battle with illness on March 6 at age 62. After callers arrived to pay their respects at Healey Funeral Home in Haddon Heights the evening of the 15th, a Mass was held the following morning at St. Vincent Palotti Church in Haddon Township. Chief Hartstein was one of the most widely-respected professional in the fire service, evidenced by the hundreds who came to honor his passing over the two day period. All of the fire departments in the GCN readership area were represented, along with other Camden County Municipalities, and departments from as far as Wildwood Crest. In addition, Paul was the Past Chief of the Audubon Fire Department and President of the Audubon Fire Department Relief Association. He was also as honorary member of Haddon Fire Company Number 1. Finally, Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Marie Council No. 1443 in Haddon Township and a 4th degree member of the Bishop Eustace General Assembly. PETER FALCHETTA (March 21) Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Rose Lima Church, Haddon Heights, for Peter Falchetta, 94, of Haddon Heights, who passed away at Burlington Woods Nursing Facility on March 7, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Falchetta served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the Philadelphia Inquirer where he worked for a total of 48 years retiring in 1986 as the Art Director for the paper. After his retirement, Pete devoted his time to constructing manager scenes earning the unofficial title “Mr. Manager”. Mr. Falchetta was a devoted parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Parish serving as an usher for many years. He also was a member of the Haddon Heights Lions Club and he developed several logos for the Borough of Haddon Heights including the bicentennial logo. Peter is the beloved husband of 62 years to Shirley (nee Tubman). He is the devoted father of Peter Thomas (Winnie), John (Irma), Linda (the late Frank) Meinel, James (Lisa) and Stephen (Leah). DOLORES M. BLOOM (March 28) Funeral services were held at Etherington-Creran Funeral Home, 700 Powell Street, Gloucester City, for Dolores M. Bloom, (nee Metzinger) who passed away under the wonderful care of Heartland Hospice, aide DeShaun Robinson, nurse Joann Ponto and her daughter Dolores Bricker on March 22, 2013. Dolores succumbed after a valiant battle with end stage lung disease associated with COPD. She was a longtime resident of Gloucester City but her heart always remained in the coal mine regions of Pennsylvania. She spent her childhood in Ashland and Locust Dale, PA and moved to New Jersey in 1955 with her husband Edward and 2 young sons. She was a true coal miner’s daughter whose father lost his life in the mines in 1957. Dolores loved to crochet, do puzzle books and especially enjoyed her rub off tickets. She was well known around Gloucester with her little ticket list. Preceded before her were husband Edward Bloom, parents William and Helen (nee Rhodes) Metzinger, her son Edward (Eddie), brothers John (Jackie), William (Billy), James (Jimmy), Edward (Eddie) and sisters Helen Marie Hancock, Barbara DiCarlo and Dolores’ longtime companion John Hancock. Dolores leaves behind her dear children Daniel Bloom (Sabina), Robin Brangan (Al), Dolores Bricker (Harry), Donna Bloom, Betty Lindsay (Rich) all on Gloucester City and her sister Margaret Dale of Cramer Hill. Clifford, (nee Martin) of Gloucester City, who passed away on March 20, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Clifford and loving mother of Elizabeth A. Rodgers of Gloucester City, Shirley J. Quinn of Paulsboro and John L. Clifford (Sandy) of Williamstown. She is also survived by seven dear grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her baby daughter Mary Jane Clifford, her sister Gertrude M. McFaul and brother Herbert Martin. Mrs. Clifford was a life long resident of Gloucester City. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her senior friends. CARMINE MARCHIONNE (March 28) By Bill Cleary, CNBNews.net A GREAT GUY--Carmine Marchionne, a former Gloucester City postmaster and president of the Gloucester City Rotary Club loss his battle to cancer on February 3, 2013 at the age of 78. A former resident of Brooklawn, Carmine began his 40-year postal career in 1956 as a clerk, carrier. He worked his way up the ladder to supervisor of customer services, and was in charge of the Bellmawr Post Office branch on Black Horse Pike for a good number of years. He was appointed postmaster of the Gloucester City Post Office in 1973 and retired in 1996.
Rotarian Ron Pritchett, a good friend of the deceased, was asked about Mr. Marchionne’s Rotary Club background. He writes, “Carmine was inducted into the Gloucester City Rotary Club April, 1974. As an ‘Active’ member with the classification Postal Service, Postmaster, he was the club president 1982-83. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest distinction possible at the local club level, because he supported the Rotary Foundation to the extent of a $1000 contribution in his name, which helps people across the world in the areas of health, hunger and humanity. Carmine and wife Cecilia attended all Rotary functions and could always be seen leading the group to the dance floor at social and fundraising events.” Carmine was born on July 16, 1935 in Camden City, NJ. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Camden. He served in the Army National Guard for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cecilia; four sons, Carmine, Jr. (Philamena), Mark (Jane), Michael (Angela), and Steven (Kathy); and three grandchildren, Dia, Dana and Michael, Jr. Three of his children followed his postal Path. One is a electronics tech in the plant, and one is a city carrier in Camden NJ. The youngest son Steven, is postmaster of the Pennsville Post Office. Funeral services were private.

JAMES J. MCCARTHY, JR. (March 28) Funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Child Parish, Runnemede, for James J. McCarthy, Jr., 85, of Runnemede, who passed away on March 19, 2013. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Koch). Loving father of James, III, Joseph (Terry) and Jerry (Bobbe). Devoted grandfather of James McCarthy (Gia), Jennifer McCarthy, Zachary McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy, Meredith McCarthy and great grandfather of Corey Sikkema, Kelly Sikkema, Louis McCarthy and Blaise McCarthy. Dear brother of Mary Lou Venella (Dave), Jean Stillwell (Phil) and the late Charles “Mickey” McCarthy. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. James proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Adirondack. He coached Runnemede Little League and RYAA for many years. LILLIAN D. HOLSHUE (March 28) Private services were held at the request of the family for Lillian D. Holshue, (nee Rowand), 81, of Runnemede, who passed away quietly surrounded by her loving family on March 20, 2013. Childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of James Edward Holshue, Jr. of 64 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Bruce Warren Holshue. She is survived by her loving children Sherri Ann Hacker (Al) of South Mills, NC, James Edward Holshue, III (Mary) of Duanesburg, NY and Kathy Lynn Riffe (Tom) of Portsmouth, VA., adoring grandchildren Al (Nora), Lisa, Ashley and Lauren Hacker and Jimmy and Courtney Riffe, loving nephew Joe Holshue (Margie), as well as many nieces and nephews. Stafford, ,88, (nee Wimbish) Of Haddon Township, formerly of Gloucester City who passed away on March 23, 2013. Loving wife of 64 years to the late Edwin B. Stafford. Dorothy was born in Stuart, Virginia. She resided in Gloucester City for 51 years before moving to Haddon Twp. Dorothy retired from Cooper Hospital in Camden after 20 years. She was a member of the Gloucester Heights Fire Hall Women’s Auxiliary and an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Audubon.
