The World Series of Poker (WSOP), the world’s most prestigious brand in poker, awarded $3,053,585 during its most recent Circuit tour stop at Harrah’s Atlantic City, which ran August 13-24 and hosted 18 WSOP trophy events. The poker festival drew some of the best players on the East Coast, including Quantitative Trader Brian Luo, who won the biggest title of the series, and 2015 WSOP World Champion Joe McKeehen, who won two events, adding two rings to his ample trophy case.
The marquee $1,700 buy-in Main Event at Harrah’s drew a field of 698 entrants, generating a prize pool of just over $1 million. Luo, 29, ultimately finished as the last man standing, earning the grand prize of $189,145.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Luo told PokerOrg in the aftermath of his victory. “I just ran so good to get here. It’s just a dream. Everyone was so tough.”
Even though Luo maintains a full-time job in Philadelphia, he has managed to record an impressive list of poker accomplishments in the past five years, which now combine for around $3 million in total earnings, according to The Hendon Mob. Along with the six-figure payday, Luo won his second WSOP gold ring.
McKeehen also added to his WSOP ring collection. The North Wales native won ring number five and six by taking down Event #8: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em and Event #17: $2,200 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller, respectively, for a combined $77,368 in prize money.
Two New Jerseyans claimed significant paydays of their own during the series.
