Over the last four years, human service agencies in Pennsylvania have struggled as a result of drastic funding cuts enacted by Republicans. Governor Wolf understands the challenges that service providers face and that’s why his budget is a hugely important step in restoring these state funds.

The governor’s budget restores funding for county human service agencies, increases funding for programs that help aging Pennsylvanians while also increasing choices for their care and support, and provides additional funding for programs that help individuals with disabilities.

NJ Watchdog pursuit of public records strikes blow for transparency

The news media are buzzing about New Jersey Watchdog’s court battles with Chris Christie over public records.

In state court last week, the non-profit news site prevailed over the New Jersey governor’s office in a contest over his \”ace-in-the-hole\” – a directory of press contacts Christie wants to protect for his own political use.

\”New Jersey Watchdog convinced the judge to compel Christie to release his so-called media list, a ‘key cog in his taxpayer-funded publicity machine – a multi-tiered, high-tech list of 2,500 media contacts,’ as the investigative journalism site described it,\” stated the editorial board of the Star-Ledger, the state’s largest newspaper, on Wednesday.

NJ State Police Safety Tip: Something to Think About When Crossing the Street

$\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01676844f36c970b-800wi\"$ From the time we are young, our parents teach us to look both ways before we cross the street, and then look both ways again! It\’s great advice for both young and old alike!

Think about this:

This year, 87 people have been struck and killed by motor vehicles in New Jersey. Nearly 30% of New Jersey\’s traffic fatalities are pedestrians, and at this rate, it is possible that an additional 80 pedestrians will be killed in 2015. More than 78% of pedestrians struck and killed were over the age of 30 and more than 50% were over the age of 50.

The cause and circumstances surrounding these crashes are varied. This trend cannot be attributed to any one particular factor. So, we\’d like give a friendly reminder to both drivers and pedestrians alike:

SPILL: People kayak in the Animas River near Durango, Colo., Thursday, in water colored from a mine waste spill. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said that a cleanup team was working with heavy equipment Wednesday to secure an entrance to the Gold King Mine. Workers instead released an estimated 1 million gallons of mine waste into Cement Creek, which flows into the Animas River.

Taylor and Chief Christopher Leusner of the Middle Township Police Department announce the arrest of 57-year old Vincent Watkins, a resident of West Scott Street, in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township. On August 13, 2015, Watkins was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault, a crime of the second degree.

Members of the Special Victims Unit of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Major Crimes Unit of the Middle Township Police Department initiated a joint investigation after receiving information from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious activity between juvenile members of the Bethel Commandment Church and it\’s Boy Scout Troop dating back to the early 1990\’s. At the time, Watkins was a member of the church and also involved in the Boy Scout Troop 1104, which are located in Whitesboro, NJ.

TD BANK IN BELLMAWR ROBBED (Photos)

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Bellmawr Police Chief William Walsh are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a borough bank today.

The suspect entered the TD Bank located at 180 North Black Horse Pike in Bellmawr around 1:25 p.m. and passed a demand note to a teller.

The robber did not show a weapon and no one was injured. He received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

A healthy motor neuron needs to transport its damaged components from the nerve-muscle connection all the way back to the cell body in the spinal cord. If it cannot, the defective components pile up and the cell becomes sick and dies. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) have learned how a mutation in the gene for superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), which causes ALS, leads cells to accumulate damaged materials. The study, published in the journal Neuron, suggests a potential target for treating this familial form of ALS.
