Superior Court Complaint Filed Against Company Accused of Not Hiring on Basis of Age, Race

TRENTON – The Division on Civil Rights announced today that it has filed a Director’s Complaint in state Superior Court alleging that a New Jersey auto parts firm unlawfully discriminated on the basis of age and race by not hiring a qualified African-American man in his 50s for a delivery driver position it advertised, then hiring two significantly younger, non-African-American applicants for the same work.

The three-count Complaint against Newark-based Continental Auto Parts alleges multiple violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD), including age-based discrimination, race-based discrimination, and making unlawful pre-employment inquiries.

 CHEER—Former Gloucester City resident Bob Chew, (photo) and Gloucester Catholic alumnus retired \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef017ee420ee77970d-120wi\"recently from the Camden County Police Department after a stellar 26-year career. Bob started his law enforcement career as a C.O in 1989, Camden County, working there for nine years. After that stint, he was hired by the Camden City Police Department where he served 15 years. He finished his career with two years as a sergeant with the Camden County Police Department. The detective/sergeant spent some time with an elite force of detectives working on \”cold cases\”. He received his Masters from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a GPA 3.90 (Admin Science) Adjunct Professor at Wilmington University and Fairleigh Dickinson U. He received numerous commendations throughout his career. He and his wife Lisa have four children, Ricky (24), Amy (21) Timmy (13) and Courtney (8).

\"IMG_1879\"JEER—The City of Gloucester has some good things happening in the community yet those in charge see no reason to tell the people they serve what is going on. For example, when Pope Francis visited Philadelphia, the schooner North Wind traveled up the river with signs greeting the pontiff. And we learned by accident that a fire boat was given to the city fire department last year for free by the City of Camden. We asked this question before, \”Why are our city officials so secretive?\”

CHEER-Gloucester Catholic High School held the Mass for the Unity of Family at Proprietors Park on September 19. An estimated 200 people attended the event. Many of those in attendance were fascinated by the lone dove that flew to the top of the pavilion when the Mass began. It set there throughout the entire ceremony. Father Allain Caparas was the principal celebrant of the Mass, assisted by Monsignor William Hodge, pastor of St. Mary’s Parish. Following the 5 PM Mass, a barbecue was held.

YOUR MONEY: $3.2 Million in Grant Funding to State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies

WASHINGTON—Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch announced today that the Justice Department will launch a new collaborative strategy to more closely partner with businesses in intellectual property enforcement efforts and will award over $3.2 million to 10 jurisdictions to support state and local task forces in the training, prevention, enforcement and prosecution of intellectual property theft and infringement crimes.

With October being National Energy Awareness Month and the average household spending nearly $2,000 a year on energy bills, the personal finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2015’s Most and Least Energy Efficient States.

To bring awareness to the impact of energy on Americans’ wallets and encourage consumers to conserve more, WalletHub compared the efficiency of car- and home-energy consumption in 48 U.S. states. Due to data limitations, Alaska and Hawaii were excluded from our analysis.
