Van Drew Provides Atlantic City Housing Authority Update, Announces Elevator Replacements

Today, Congressman Van Drew provided an update on conditions at the Atlantic City Housing Authority (ACHA), including immediate relief for residents and a long-term fix to ongoing elevator failures.
“Elevators breaking down in these buildings has been a problem across multiple ACHA properties for years, especially Shore Park Hi Rise on Virginia Avenue, where many seniors and residents with disabilities live,” said Congressman Van Drew. “It is unacceptable. Since the federal takeover of the ACHA, real leaders have been put in charge to take action and fix these problems. Recently, I announced more than $12 million in federal funding to help stabilize the ACHA and improve conditions for residents. I can now confirm that a portion of that funding will be used to fully replace the broken elevators. In the meantime, the elevators are operating again, and HUD has people on the ground right now helping residents day-to-day with groceries, mobility needs, and anything else that comes up. We are going to keep working until these conditions are fully fixed for the long term.”

Commissioners, Michaels Organization Open Affordable Housing Complex

the Board of Commissioners will celebrate the grand opening of Victory Commons, a $30 million, 81-unit affordable housing complex located in the heart of Voorhees Township. Units will be income-restricted to households earning 60% or less of the Area Median Income, and feature One-, two-, and three-bedroom floorplans, ample parking, a clubhouse, and other amenities. According to Zillow, the United States’ housing deficit grew to 4.7 million in 2025, furthering the nation’s affordability crisis. This staggering statistic underscores the value of investing in affordable housing throughout Camden County.

NOAA Fisheries announces the adjusted quotas for the 2026 Atlantic shark commercial fisheries.

The Atlantic shark commercial fishing year automatically opened on January 1, 2026 under base quotas.

NOAA Fisheries has adjusted the 2026 commercial quotas based on underharvests from the 2025 fishing year, consistent with existing regulations.

Camden County College Observes National Apprenticeship Week

Representatives from the U.S Department of Labor discussed workforce needs and apprenticeship initiatives at Camden County College.

The event featured New Jersey’s first AI Registered Apprenticeship program. They also recognized a Camden County College Manufacturing Apprenticeship graduate. Additional discussions will focus on preparing students for in-demand trade and technical roles.

“As a proud union carpenter for over thirty years, I’ve seen firsthand how skilled trades and registered apprenticeships can transform lives, and strengthen communities,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young. “These pathways create access to stable, in-demand careers while building a stronger and more resilient workforce.”

The event is part of National Apprenticeship Week, held from April 26-May 2, a nationwide initiative coordinated by the U.S Department of Labor. The week celebrates the impact of Registered Apprenticeships and promotes the expansion of career pathways for students and workers.

Mary Elizabeth “Marybeth” Pogodzinski, 57, of Pennsylvania

Mary Elizabeth Pogodzinski “Marybeth”, age 57, of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her residence in the loving care of her husband and children on April 27, 2026.

Born on December 31, 1968, in Somerville, New Jersey, Marybeth was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph M. Esposito and Frances Ann Esposito (née Rafferty). She was raised in Middlesex, New Jersey, and graduated from Middlesex High School in 1986. She met her husband, Chris as a secretary at Somerset Medical Center and he was in residency at the hospital.

After living a few years in Sacramento, California, Marybeth and Chris moved to Nazareth, PA in 1998. She built a life centered on family and service to her community.

Cherry Blossom Run/Walk Raises Over 60k to Support Cancer Care

On Sunday, April 26, The Jefferson Health Foundation – New Jersey, hosted 333 participants and raised over $60,000 at the inaugural Cherry Blossom Run/Walk fundraiser benefiting the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Centers in New Jersey, helping to expand access to advanced cancer care close to home in Cherry Hill and Washington Township.

Held at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital, Cherry Blossom Run/Walk participants, made up of individuals, families, teams and four-legged companions, either ran in a 5K or walked a 1-mile course.

“This event brought our mission to life in a visible and meaningful way,” says Tamara LaCouture, MD, East Region Chief of Cancer Services. “Every step taken supported patients who are navigating cancer with strength and resilience.”
