A New Jersey Department of Corrections investigation uncovered an alleged contraband smuggling and money laundering scheme involving a Senior Correctional Police Officer, current and former incarcerated persons and civilians, resulting in criminal charges against six individuals.
“Contraband directly threatens the lives and safety of everyone within correctional facilities,” said Commissioner Victoria L. Kuhn, Esq. “Introducing prohibited items puts both staff and the incarcerated population at risk. This successful investigation by the South Woods State Prison Special Investigations Division reflects a total commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and stable environment.”
The following information is preliminary and subject to change. At approximately 8:20 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire on the highway along the 3200 block of West Clearfield Street.
Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Officers immediately transported the victim to Temple University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 8:45 p.m.
There are no arrests and no suspects identified at this time. The investigation is actively ongoing with the Homicide Unit.
UPDATE: The power outage was not the reason why electricity was loss in the Riverview Heights section of the city, according to a spokesperson for Public Service Electric and Gas.
Kathy Hennessy Riley, PSE&G Corporate Communications, said the cause was weather-related. “I wanted to clarify that the traffic light pole that was struck at Broadway and Market Street was not the cause of the local power outage that affected the Riverview Heights section of the City on Monday night.
The outage, which affected approximately 2500 customers, was weather-related. Crews worked to safely identify and address the issue and restore service to affected customers as quickly as possible.”
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (CNBNews) (June 22, 2026)--The traffic light at Broadway and Market Street is apparently the cause of the local power outage that affected the Riverview Heights section of the City. The local police did not report how the light was knocked over. Neither did they release any information on whether there were any injuries. Businesses and residents lost electricity around 2 PM. It was restored at 6 PM.
Traffic lights along Broadway from Kohler Street to Market Street were offline. Many of the businesses along that stretch of highway closed their doors due to not having air conditioning. Residents living in the Carpenter Square Apartments were also affected.
Public Service Electric and Gas first notified customers that the electricity would be restored by 7 PM. Service was restored at 6:10 PM.

Residents and businesses lost electricity around 2 PM today. Electric was restored around 6 PM. Local police released no information to the media about the incident.
Woodbury, NJ – A jury found Gabriel H. Woolson, 26, of Williamstown, guilty of death by auto before the Honorable Russell DePersia, J.S.C., Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: At 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2022, Woolson was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR 1 westbound on the South Black Horse Pike in Williamstown at an extremely high rate of speed. Evan Silverstein, 52, of Marlton, had been traveling eastbound on the same road before making a left turn across the westbound lanes of travel. Woolson struck the victim’s vehicle, severing the car in half and launching the front half more than 100 feet into the parking lot of a strip mall. Silverstein was ejected from the vehicle and suffered catastrophic, fatal injuries. A passenger in Woolson’s vehicle was also injured.
An investigation determined that Woolson’s vehicle reached a speed of 119 mph three seconds before the crash and the brakes had not been activated until about one second before the crash.
During the trial, the State presented numerous witnesses including an eyewitness to the crash and several expert witnesses.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is investigating two separate fatal traffic incidents that occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Both collisions involved motorists who remained on the scene, resulting in the tragic deaths of an unidentified E-Bike operator and a 62-year-old pedestrian.

The Philadelphia Police Department is actively investigating three separate violent incidents that occurred across the city in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026. These incidents left three people injured by gunfire and a group of friends subjected to an armed carjacking following a neighborhood shootout.
Double Shooting Leaves One Critically Injured after Verbal Dispute
At approximately 2:42 AM, officers from the 25th District responded to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Room following the arrival of two walk-in gunshot victims. Preliminary findings indicate that a 23-year-old female and a 27-year-old female had left a local bar around 2:30 AM and were driving to drop the older female off at home. Approximately 15 minutes into their drive, a dark-colored sedan pulled alongside the passenger side of their vehicle. Following a brief verbal exchange between the 23-year-old victim and an occupant of the sedan, a suspect inside the dark vehicle opened fire. The suspect vehicle immediately fled the scene. Realizing her passenger was unresponsive and bleeding, the driver rushed to Temple ER. The 23-year-old driver is currently listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to her left shoulder, while the 27-year-old passenger remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her left eye. The motive is currently unknown, no arrests have been made, and the Shooting Investigation Group is leading the ongoing investigation.
A Camden man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in the city earlier this month, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez. Eric Irizarry, 45, is charged with 1st -degree Murder in the death of 24-year-old Luis J. Bonet of Camden. He is also charged with 2nd -degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and 2nd -degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Detectives are investigating a shooting that injured a man in Winslow Township, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Winslow Township Police Chief Donald Lemons.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at approximately 11:04 AM, cameras at the Target Store in the Sicklerville Section of Gloucester Township captured the pictured suspect entering the store, selecting several items that were concealed into a reusable Target shopping bag, then exiting the store through the entrance doors without rendering payment. The suspect was last seen on foot fleeing towards the nearby Wawa Store.
Woodbury, NJ – Dennis J. Hall, 71, of Franklin Township, has been charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation death of a 40-year-old woman, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced.
According to documents filed in this case:
Franklin Township Police responded to an East Avenue home at 6:16 a.m. on Thursday, June 11 after Hall called and reported Devin Hall, 40, was not breathing. Hall admitted to strangling the victim both on the call to emergency services and to officers when they arrived. A witness also told police that Hall had woken them up and admitted to strangling the victim.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures on the victim, who was transported to a local hospital. On June 12 the victim was removed from life support and pronounced dead. An autopsy performed Sunday, June 14 by the Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland Regional Medical Examiner determined the immediate cause of death was asphyxiation and the manner of death was homicide.
Hall was arrested at the scene, initially charged with attempted murder, and remanded to the Salem County Jail. Following the victim’s death and the autopsy,
