Philadelphia Zoo Announces Opening Date and Preview Details for Bear Country

* Zoo Members Enjoy an Exclusive Preview Nearly a Week Before Opening *

Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Zoo is thrilled to announce that the first-look opening of Francis J. Carey Bear Country will be happening Thursday, June 4 at 11:30am. Guests are invited to be among the first to visit the $25 million state-of-the-art facility built with the highest standards of animal care in mind, making it one of the best in the country for endangered bears. Carey Bear Country includes newly refreshed and upgraded habitats, with the addition of a third, brand-new habitat, dedicated behind-the-scenes indoor and outdoor den spaces to support breeding programs, and a brand-new Zoo360 trail for the bears to explore, all of these additions enhancing the Zoo’s animal care program. Throughout Carey Bear Country, there will be new ways for guests to get closer than ever before to the Zoo’s bears with cave-like glass viewing areas. Interactive, educational signage throughout the space will tell the stories of Andean bears and sloth bears, the threats they face in the wild, and how Philadelphia Zoo is making a difference in their conservation.

12th Annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day

The Camden County Board of Commissioners, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, SJ local group, and Community Partners are proud to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Day 2026 and Wear Orange Weekend with this special concert and resource fair at the Camden Waterfront. Each year we honor survivors while building a community with those working to end gun violence. This year’s event will have featured speakers, student artworks, voting machine demos, and the Souls Shot Portrait Program. Following speaking program, Tank and the Bangas will take the stage for a concert as part of the Sunset Jazz Series at 8 PM. Mind Escape Philly’s newest room to debut in Summer 2026

Mind Escape Philly, located at 521 S. 4th Street in Philadelphia, will debut their third room, called The Little Greenhouse of Horror, based off the best selling musical “Little Shop of Horrors.” 

The new room was designed by Nat Mellen, who has been apart of the company since 2021. This plant themed room will incorporate puzzle design that allows everyone to play. The goal of The Little Greenhouse of Horror is to create a fully operable room that can open the door for 100% handicap able movement and puzzle completion, with the overall visuals plays with the happy sunshine plant and the monstrosity of plants.
