Route 44 Bridge over Mantua Creek taken out of service

The Route 44 Bridge over Mantua Creek between West Deptford and Paulsboro, Gloucester County was taken out of service for marine traffic today because of excessive heat. Route 44/Crown Point Road remains open for vehicles.

The excessive heat has caused the expansion of some components on the bridge, which prohibits the bridge from opening to allow marine traffic to pass. In the closed position, the bridge has 2 feet of clearance over mean high water. Vessels that can transit safely under the bridge may do so. The United States Coast Guard has been notified.

The closure of the bridge to marine traffic is expected to last until 7 a.m. Saturday, July 18 when conditions are forecasted to improve. If conditions improve earlier, the bridge may resume normal operations for marine traffic sooner.

The FBI and LinkedIn recently joined forces to teach the public about employment scams disguised as legitimate opportunities. 
 
Employment fraud is generally defined as a scheme to deceive someone into believing they have been, or could soon be, hired for a job.
 
“Job seekers are uniquely vulnerable—not because they lack judgement but because they’re operating in an environment where urgency and opportunity are constant,” said Rebecca L. Keithley, assistant section chief of the Financial Crimes Section in the FBI’s Criminal Division. “The goal isn’t just to respond after someone becomes a victim but to help people recognize the warning signs early enough to avoid the scam entirely.”

Gloucester Township Police Traffic Advisory

Monday July 13, 2026 – 

  • New Brooklyn-Erial Road – 7:00pm to 4:00pm. Aqua NJ will be installing water services for two new homes.  There will be alternating traffic with flaggers between Wye Mill Drive & Kent Island Avenue.

Monday July 13, 2026 –

  • 838 Jarvis Road – 9:00am to 3:00pm.  South Jersey Gas will be installing a gas service behind curb, there will be alternating traffic with flaggers between Debbie Place & Williamstown-Erial Road.

Monday July 13 thru Wednesday July 15, 2026 – 

  • Old Black Horse Pike – 8:00pm to 6:00am.  New Jersey American Water will be replacing a water main on the Black Horse Pike, there will be a full road closure on Old Black Horse Pike between Richmond Avenue & the Black Horse Pike.
